2 inch lift shackles?

Bought some new to me rear leaf springs yesterday and they came with some quality looking lifting shackles. Now my brother seems to think I can't use them without extending the drive shaft or else I'll get axle wrap. Is this true or is he just being negative because he doesnt want my 89 yota to be higher than his danger ranger. If he's right I'll be crushed.

depends on how much lift it gives you. He may be right.

2" shackles give you about 1" of lift.

Shackles wil llift almost half the distance they are extended.
So if your stock shackle is 4 inches, and the new shackle is 6 inches then it is 2 inches longer, and will lift half that length, effectively 1"
Make sense?

your chances of increased axle wrap would be greater if you used a block. just be sure your pinion angle is good to go...

Since the shackle will change the angle of the axle, you would be fine.

thanks for the input everyone. Now for the next question. I'll have to get shocks with more travel in them correct? Do I only need 1" extra or 2", because I've had an add a leaf before with too much travel in the shock and they kept blow'n the eyebolts off. Rancho 5000

Can't tell if you are saying your old shocks had too much travel for the suspension or if the suspension had too much travel for the cold shocks. But the best way is to measure how long the shocks need to be, there is a link on how to do so on the web page below:
