Those with 1st generation 4runners (or without): do you think the 4runners are going to get into the high price ranges like the FJ-40s have? I was playing around on ebay today, and check out these links.

Granted, those are in really nice stock condition, but it wouldn't take much to have mine in very similar condition. Hopefully, these may actually turn into an investment.

 

I don't think so. The FJ40 was very distinctive, much more so than the 4Runner. The shape and styling of the FJ40 mimics the Jeep shape, which is an iconic to begin with.

Car styling has gone downhill since the 60's and 70's. IMHO.

 

I think it'll keep along the lines of the bronco, scout, etc, because of the removeable top. FJ40 Landcruiser was an icon... the vehicle that started it all for toyota all around the world... 4runner is just one of the best trucks built in the 80's....

 

the 4Runner will never be as historic as the FJ40 because the FJ40 was a real workhorse, not something that Toyota changed year after year and each change made it more child/soccer mom friendly and less 4WD worthy. only the aussie land cruiser and maybe the FJC is truely 4WD worthy now. granted, demand for older 4runners will go up and prices will go up too, but never around $20, 000us like a fully restored FJ40 or 45. if you want more money for an older 4Runner, sell it in Canada. before i got my 4Runner, i looked at an 89 4Runner with over 350, 000kms and a 1" lift and complete sound system overhaul and they were selling it for $7, 000cdn. so it gives you an idea.

 

In Canada (I live here) any pre 95 truck or runner with no rust will get you high price. There is a big demand and no trucks that are not rotten. I would pay $2000 + for an extra cab truck with no drive train as long as it has no rust. You can get $1400+ for just a truck box here.

 

Early broncos (66-77) can go for big $$. $15-30K.

 

Maybe in exceptional circumstances the above is true, but one in "good" condition doesn't go for that. A "good" FJ40 goes for higher.

 

how about the even more rare , and "test market vehicle" for the 4Runner ...

They are hard to find. But I don't know if there's a big demand for them, though. Saw one a few months ago at a local u pull.

 

not a big demand .. because there was only 1500 ever made .. NO one knows about them .. there like the "Harley Earl" "Zorba Duntoffs" (sp) special edition/test market vehicle , of the toyota truck .. here in North America !!!

TRUE toyota 4x4/4Runner enthusiasts know about them .

If I kept my truck in the garage and never took it off road or in inclimate weather, I too could sell my '86 for some change...

 

Im pretty sure i can get 8 grand easy for my 4runner.. 89 with 230,000km and tasteful mods. I've seen some with super low miles (less than 50k) in show room condition fetch 15,000+.... my cousin is going to sell his beauty of an 88 and we're expecting 9-10,000 for it... def not enough of them to go around up here...

 

All depends, but the more rare (only made for 6 years total and most of them are 86 on up) put them into the more $$$ category.

Look at me, I been looking for one forever for under 2500 and most i found were rotten. I found one for 800 that had promise but is rotted. What didnt survive rotted out.

On the other hand, my T100 is worth 7k easy-specially with the new engine and the shape its in. Not like I would sell it tho..

First gen 4 Runner lovers need to visit the west and drive one home. They sell all day for under 3 grand. No rust but the sun beats up the paint. You can tell what has original paint. Not even clearcoat can protect your paint. Mine was $1800 and beat up front and rear (bumpers, but I will replace them with MC stuff), and a dented pass. front fender, 220,000 miles, SR5 V6 auto. Aside from the poor gas mileage, 12-15, it is very dependable and everything works.

 

Any recent pics? The T100 was a rare model too, I only see them once in a blue moon around here.

Sadly no. I was stupid and decided to make a snorkel out of ABS. At the time it seemed like a really good idea, but now I think I shouldnt have done it. In the future I am gonna get a new fender online and have it painted to match. The truck is already pretty scratched up..

Around here I see the same 3-4 around town, but none of them are the SR5 model..all the base DX.

 

The '85's have the potential to skyrocket....not easy to find one in very nice condition that hasn't already been messed with.

I have modified almost every vehicle I have owned.....motorcycles, quads, musclecars, imports, and trucks.....and I have very rarely bought a previously modified vehicle.....I like to know whats been done and if its been done right!

 

I bought both of mine from California and imported them to Alberta. I paid $3500 for each of them. The first one was a bone stock 87 Turbo and the other one is was a lightly modified 87 SR5. Neither one have a spot of rust! I found the turbo on e-bay. It was listed for 5000 and didn't have one single bid on it. I bought it after the auction ended and flew down and drove it back. Before that I thought that every one came with bondo in the rear quarters from the factory cuz I had never actually seen an original wheel well lip. The second one I bought while on vacation last year. I think I have the only 2 left hand drive completely rust free 4Runners in Alberta right now. I put the SR5 on the local classified's the other day for $7000 and got quite a bit of interest. I did rebuild the engine and paint it, but it's the body that everybody wants. The prices in California have gone up quite a bit lately due to the lack of parts, though. I took 3 of my spare transfer cases down to Cal-Mini when I was down last time because they can't find any down there! Someday I think a mint first gen will be up there in value. They are definitely getting harder to find in good original shape.
