the 12 x 125 is what I intend to use on the 4runner and likely mine as well.

A little cut, a little persuasion, and a little hammering (hey, just like my wedding night!) I did a zuk mod tonight to my 87 pickup. Put in 12 in 125 lb coils and man, what a difference. It was like I gave my truck a tummy tuck, rear lift, boob job, and a facelift! I swear she was running better tonight. The ride was incredible. The truck is much better, too!

tryed this mod with some springs I found that were from some rear struts from a passenger car. Its nice and level now and does flex good, but rides stiff. if you hit a speed bump hard the front rolls over it and the back bounces up in the air a bit. chk it out

It looks like it's secured enough so that it won't go nowhere. How much lift did they give? The lower fit over the rubber snubbers could cause an issue farther down the road. Certainly is good for the testing you're doing though.

And if you could measure the outside diameter it would be appreciated....5"?

 

I put the blazeland kit up front, so that lifted it 2/3" and i put some shackels in the rear 7" from bolt to bolt and its about level maybe 1/2" more in the rear.
outside dia is 4.5"

the leafs were on the overloads before the coil springs. I think the shocks are limiting the drop limit, gonna chk it out today.

 

thanks....I was wondering if 5" OD coils were the ones I've seen others use that slip over top steel stopper so much...but based on you using 4.5", I'd say that 5" wouldn't fit over either. Probably 5.5" inchers would though.

I'm figuring a stiffer ride could result if the coils were a heavier poundage like 200 lb/ inch rated (obviously).....also, it could ride stiffer if the coils didn't lift it very much....say a 1 inch lift.....and that means the coils are adding in with the leafs for a total pounds/inch that is closer to about 300.

Stiff shocks could also do that.

 

Does anyone know if its possible to use the jeep TJ coils up front on a solid axle 4runner? I have a very clean 85 4runner and i want to keep it as stock as possible.

Just a couple pics for reference..... 600# in the very rear for my trip to Havasu(some in the back seats as well, but not much)...... 12"x125# coils on what was OVER FLAT spring pack and riding on the bump stops... with all the weight and on a hill in both pics, ....maybeeeeee dropped .5-.75",.......600#..... LOVE the Zuks, especially when I need em, ya know? Pics, both loaded with the 600#(plus, actually, just being fair)>>>>>>>>

Just got back from driving the beast up to Portland and back down here....I think around 1300 miles but not sure Still loving my ZUK spring mod, but dream of Chevys one day.....

 

Chef that's a super clean runner. I'm a big fan of the zuk mod myself. Thanks to philberts in depth posts. Made my install easy. Just waiting now to buy balljoint spacers for the front to level out my runner. Did you by new shocks for the rear after the zuk mod?

Hey Stag,.... thanks, man! Means a lot....it's all been worth it. Far as the shocks, I did NOT replace mine....but then, I started with shocks for a 4" lifted Pick up(my buddy gave these to me, they're Rancho RS5000's....... LILLLLLLLLLLL stiff, to say the least). I think they also are different in extended/compressed from what I need, but bottom line, they're long enough to make up for the added lift with the Zuk.

Like I said, I'm LOADED, and I mean heavy....and it's just barely compressing these springs! Plus, the ride, with a lil weight, is even nicer(at least on the 12"x125#'ers)

For those who sub'd to my thread, please let me know if you're still getting updates via email? I seem to be the only one posting to it lately, that's atypical. Maybe I'm just ultra-boring?

Here's the before - stock height, no mod. There was about 2" between the rear bumpstops. I had a pic, but... details in the link.


Here's the after - Blazeland long travel (appx 3" lift) and 14", 125# springs


The ride is awesome all around. It's a new truck.

Speed humps that caused a bang and a ruckus now are hardly noticeable at 12-14mph more, even with a load of crap in the back (33" spare, axles, couple cases of water, tools, and more junk) .

The rear tops out when going fast enough, it's going to need longer shackles to resolve that.

I almost scored a set of AllPro 5" leafs for $150, but I just missed them so I ended up still installing these.

It's a great mod. The price point makes it even more awesome!!

Got some shots while wheeling in Havasu.... think I already posted em in my build, Zuk Thread, etc. Not here yet... But since I got some today, testing a lil flex on a big tree root, shot with my cell... I thought I'd torture everyone with the terrible pic quality! hahaha.

Now, these were today, just to show, not even fully stuffed on the driver side/flexing droop on the passenger side.... they STILL are clearly working, not becoming dangerous(about to drop out the tower, etc.)... and, well, they are DOING they're job! The other couple pics are not even close to the limits of front end stuffs, but showing, clearly, that the Mega Travel Ball Joints, BJ spacer lift/suspension restore has worked wonders... Before, I couldn't get near there without getting the front driver side tire off the ground... now most of it is on the ground, even with 8" Up from level on the passenger side, at least. Like I said, could have stuffed more, but ran out of tree! .... and time, of course! lol. Some pics>>>








Just my Humble Opinion... THESE ARE A GREAT SOLUTION TO SAG! Secondly, you can see, they don't stop all practical wheeling/applications! PLUS, .....the loads I can carry without bottoming out is astounding!!!!

BTW, these are the 12"x125# with 1.5" 4Crawler BJ spacer lift and Downey Mega Travel Upper BJ's, New, as well as New OEM Lower BJ's, new CA bushings, and some shocks a great guy GAVE me(yotatech homie and now homie in general! lol Anthony1 on here).

I've gone through 2 dedicated "shop" digital cameras...I'm a klutz, so most of my project pics are from my phone these days....you just need a better phone

Whatever I do will be 'pull and replace'... modifying the body/frame mounts, etc. I LOVE the sound of the 63's.... but there are others that are bolt in that are really nice for a 2" lift or so, right? OME maybe? lol. I just don't want "SUperlift" or "Rancho" springs, I guess... heard those all go flat faster than the stock ones did! lol.

At least for now, I'm SUPER happy with what these Zuks have taken me through! Some day though... sure nuff, I hear ya!
