1995 4runner idling rough

I am new to this site, and just got my first 4runner last year. I love the vehicle, but am having a few problems. My truck began idling rough after leaving the house. (It was about 30deg F out and I had driven maybe a mile). When I take my foot off the gas, it idles down to about 300-400rpm. Acts like it's flooding. It runs ok at speeds. This happened once before (Dec2005) - too much fuel! Checked fuel pump(ok), igniter (ok), changed oil (had fuel in it), so I replaced the fuel pressure regulator(OEM) and problem was fixed (I thought). Any recommendations??

Thanks in advance!

I have never adjusted a TPS sensor before - anything in particular I should know? I have also seen some info about cleaning the idle speed control valve in the throttle body - any suggestions?

Thanks.

Do a search here, there's plenty of info about TPS adjustments. I'm just too lazy to do a write-up right now, but it's pretty easy and straightforward.

No, I haven't checked the plug wires recently, but I'll give them a look. Thanks for the link regarding the TPS, I plan on checking it today. I'm still alittle unsure about the feeler gauge portion of the instructions - any advice from someone who has done this on things to avoid? I would sure hate to make the problem worse - if that's possible.

Check this link as well since the V6 TPS is adjusted a little bit differently than the 22R.

It's very,VERY unlikely that the TPS is the culprit. I wouldn't mess with it if I were you. It sounds like you need a basic tune up.

-Plugs, wires, cap & rotor
-Air filter
-clean throttle body
-O2 sensor

I take it that if I have those exact symptoms (poor gas mileage, hesitant acceleration up to about 2800rpm, varying idle), and I have replaced EGR valve, wires, distributor cap, and plugs recently, I am a candidate for the TPS checkup? I also cleaned the throttle body and had the whole intake decarbonized - no change...

The truck never idled right since I bought it 70k miles ago - only if it was wamer than about 70 degrees would it idle at 800rpm - otherwise up at 1300 or more.

It's a '93 V6 4runner, manual tranny

I too seem to have this issue, mine is a 1995 3vze with an auto tranny and 151k. Bought it with a supposed rebuilt engine, guy used rtv on everything including the ad gasket. I tore down the top half, replaced a ton of hoses, rebuilt my injectors as the caps disintegrated. The vacuum lines were all backwards, now fixed, replaced almost all my vacuum lines, cap and rotor, plugs, no wires, did valve cover gaskets, fuel filter, air filter, radiator was resealed, new belts. New timing belt was supposedly installed before with bought it too.
Now, still idles rough, with a slight misfire. No CEL. when it's been driven for more than an hour and is extremely hot it will refuse to start, and when it finally does it won't run without the gas pedal being pushed down giving it some fuel. It's died while driving a few times too, and also sometimes bogs really bad unless you slam the pedal to the floor for a few.minutes while driving. I'm at a loss, and running out of money and time for this car. It's not safe for anyone in my family to drive with it being a possible safety issue with it dying. I have bypassed my bvsv , I used 10w30 oil for the oil pressure issue, and since it's been rebuilt I haven't suspected the head gaskets to have issues. HELP!!
