I just bought a 91 4runner with 235,xxx miles on it. PO said the engine was rebuilt at 228,xxx. It ran decent for a week and died on me. I pulled engine code 12. I checked the resistance in the distributor and it was reading 448 for G and 449 for G2. I found another distributor in the junk yard that read better but still not to spec (tried it anyway with no luck). Went to Autozone and checked their "new" distributor and it was as bad as mine. I changed the igniter, coil and ECU with no luck. It will fire right up in the morning and run for 30 seconds or so before it dies. After that, it will not start for the rest of the day. I checked the ignition pulse at the ecu and it is 9.4v when cranking so I do not think it is the ignition switch. Anyone else have a problem like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

Mine was doing the same thing. Code 12 for me was the distributor was 180 out. And the running for a few seconds then dying ended up being a fuel line being split in the tank that connects the pump to the pump bracket.
