1990 3.0L. Won't start--help!!
I need help. How can I get it back in time without it running???
This is not my video, just an example of what the engine is doing

First things first if you want help we need more info.
1. Are you getting spark to the spark plugs, aka pull a plug wire and see if its firing.
2. Are you getting fuel pressure, search how to make the fuel pump turn on with a jumper wire, you should be able to hear it turn on, and once you hear it turn on pull one of the fuel hoses to ensure its actually getting to the motor.
3. Compression check
Start with the basics if you have fuel spark and compression you have a running motor
Have you changed any parts prior to the failure, or completed any type of work on the vehicle. Did it stop running or did it fail to start after you turned it off.

My bad. Heres the low down
It was running fine Monday morning when I went to work at 7. I went to start it at 10, and it just sounded like gears were grinding. I let it sit for my break (15 minutes) tried again and it started no problem. Lunch time (1pm) started 3 separate times with no problem. 2nd break (4pm) it sounded like gears grinding again. At the end of the day when I was going to leave (6:30pm) it started doing what it is in the video. I smell gas when attempting to start. I have not checked for spark yet because i haven't had the time. Was going to do that first thing in the morning. And all I have done is replace the starter. When I bought it 6 months ago I also replaced the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires.

What do you mean when you say gears were grinding? Do you have a manual tranny and talking about transmission gear or the starter gear hitting the flywheel? What year and model do you have?

"Gears grinding" when starting is usually the starter pinion not engaging the flywheel (as sphealy says). A damaged pinion, a misaligned starter, damaged flywheel can all cause that.
But that's not the problem in the video. He's (she's) just got a truck that is not "firing." Which means that air, fuel, or spark are missing. (which could be just about anything).
Start by using your timing light just to see if you have spark (and while you're at it, point it at the harmonic balancer to see if the timing is close). If spark is good, the gas smell suggests it's flooded. Pull the plugs (look at them; are they wet with gas?) and prop the throttle open with the induction plumbing off for a half hour to dry it out.
Your original post asked "how can I get it back in time ...?" What do you mean? Do you think the ignition timing is way, way off? Valve timing?

Is that suppose to be a loaded question?
It's an old timing belt. From what I see and input from a mechanic with 30 years experience, the crank spun through the timing belt.
