1988 pickup question (new to me)

Hey folks! New to the forum, new to trucks/wheeling.

I got a real pretty lookin 1988 pickup, and so far I love it enough that it has replaced my daily driver.

I do have a few questions though, I was wondering if anyone knows what this (aftermarket?) switch might do? It lights up when switched on regardless of the truck being off or on, and hasnt done anything that I have been able to discern.

How about this (stock?) missing switch/piece?

Thanks you kindly, and if you are in the north western portion of WA and know any good spots to go for a drive, I'll be around..

Both of those switches are what some one has added on. The green one is in the place that the factory put the electric antenna to. Not sure what the other one is. You are going to have to see where they run to. I have yet to see a truck that has not had the wiring hacked in some way. Nice looking truck. Welcome to Yotatech.

The green switch arms the ejection seat. I don't believe they were used after 1988. You may have noticed the red button under the cap on the shifter.

Haha, thanks! Don't have a power antenna, or really a power anything, so I guess I'll start digging. Got pretty much the most basic version possible.

Another question, I get a kinda cluncky noise when I turn hard all the way to full lock (parking lots etc), is this anything to worry about or get checked out?

No idea. If I was you, I would start chasing wires and find out what extras the last owner had. Most likely driving lights at some point.

Thanks! That might be it, its the same spot/size.

I do have the clutch start cancel button, though I'm not exactly sure how to use it.

Below the Toyota on the sides of the truck behind the doors. Should be mounting holes present.

"Clutch start cancel" lets you start the truck by rolling it (jump start). If you don't press the switch, the truck won't start that way...there's an interlock to prevent it starting in gear that the switch defeats - supposed to have clutch depressed to start motor.

Nice looking '88!! I had a long bed same year, still regret selling it. Enjoy!!

I forgot about the Deck Lamp on the lower part and that is what it was on yours at one time. A base model truck wont have that. I goofed on that one. 4Runners and pickup with the light in the back will have the switch there.

The Toyota badge has holes in the body for the badge. The EFI is glued on below the Toyota badge.

no. truck will start just fine with the key turned to "on" and being pushed in gear.

however, to start it using the key-start, without the clutch pedal depressed, the clutch start cancel button needs to be pushed. this will allow the starter to operate, and at the same time will cause the truck to move (if it is "in gear") via the starter torque.

You will see a metal tab sticking off of the hub area. On lower A Arm, you will see a little dish like tab. The metal tab used to have a rubber cap on it so that when it rubs the dish it wont make that noise. The rubber cap is just worn off.
