the 1988 P/U im looking at

ok stopped by a shop to look at a 88 p/u id been eyeing for about a month now... rebuilt 22re with under 100 miles WITH paperwork, rebuilt tranny WITH paperwork... i took it on a test drive, and damn do i miss having a clutch that actually grips not slips. the odo says 221 something. drove pretty nice. its lifted on either 33s or 35s, didnt check that too much. oh, it also had factory buckets and a sunroof. its rust free as well.
now the bad...
when i was under the hood and revved the engine a bit, it would bog just a tad then pick up. he says its cuz he put an aftermarket cat on it, but the timing is perfect. (or so he says). the interior is missing door panels and trim. the tires are 5 or 6 years old(last 4 numbers in the DOT were 4303). it drove smooth until it hit a ditch, then it went BUMP. the body has a couple holes drilled in it. the steering wheel had some silvery paint spilled on it. no a/c, no sr5 gauge. lacked just a little in power, but im thinking thats due to the oversized tires. hes asking 3500, but says he'll take 3 grand. oh, and the power steering pulley is on its last leg, but thats no big deal.
all in all i thought it was pretty nice, except for the price. how much should i offer him? ( i will be selling my rig if i decide to go through with this). When the pictures come through my email(sent them from my phone) ill post them up. help guys
nick

i shoulda got a pic of the inside huh.... the BUCKETS were in great condition, but the rest of it.... ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... didnt have door panels, etc... oh yeah, the grille was being held on with duct tape, the plastic trim on the outside next to the door on the cab, duct tape. .... not sure if that makes a diff or not...

dude it your gona get another pickup, why not find one with an xtra cab and get some more space? If the truck actually has a rebuilt motor/tranny then its probably worth it.

I have to agree, I love the space in my 85 Xtracab, Not to much but not to little either, i fit a gas can, snow shovel and my subwoffer box back there just fine, I don't think i'll ever want a Regular cab now.

Find an X-tra Cab, you will love the extra room like mentioned before. I miss my old '84.

Besides that paint job on that 88 looks like some funky Motel 6 bathroom formica. Tires look like 33's...

update: found out the owner is VERY shady, and my mechanic(also likes toyotas) went to look at it a YEAR ago, guy told him the same story, turns out he just spray painted the engine silver. as for the rebuild papers, he used the paperwork from a different truck. im stayin away. purrrfect auto. figures huh?
