1986 Pickup Problem

I have a 1986 Toyota ext-cab. Its got the 22r engine. It wont idle like its suppose to. It runs great, but when its tryna idle it smokes a little. I was told it was carb smoke. Any advice?

if it's black smoke out the tailpipe, you're probably running rich, so you could try leaning the idle mixture a bit to see if it stops. if it doesn't, your float may be too high or stuck and the bowl is overflowing.
keep an eye on your idle speed and timing whenever you're adjusting the carb.

white smoke? umm... sounds like coolant
are you loosing any coolant?
could be the intake gasket

No, nothin leaks on this truck. I'll check the gasket. well its not completely white, its more of a gray/white color. (Hard to explain)

actually, I asked if you were losing coolant, not leaking... small difference in semantics...
... I was thinking more along the lines of losing coolant into the intake, thus the gasket question- no visible leak.
but okay, gray/white or blue/gray/white sounds like oil
so check your pcv valve / breather

if the pcv looks okay, then next up would be a compression check to determine ring state, and if they're okay, next in line would be valve seals and/or head gasket.
