180' and a holesaw
My stat was sticking on my 89 Pickup 4cyl. so I replaced the stock with a 180' stat. Also while checking the air filter, I became curious how the air entered into the airbox. After taking everything apart, I found the enclosed area behind the headlight itself was very restrictive. So I checked in my garage and found a 2" holesaw. I drilled 2 holes in the side engine compartment by the headlight in the shape of a sideways 8. This opened up airflow taking in fresh air in the fender area that is shilded from mud and splashing water by the inner fender. I also cut off the elbow that is located in the airbox and "port matched" then replaced the small bendy part that connects the airbox to the enclosed area behind the headlight.
After putting everything back together, I took her for a spin. There was definately a difference in acceleration in half to full throttle from 2500 to 4000 rpms. Hope you can use the info. Good luck.
