YT'ers of the 84-85 trucks HELP!

So I posted in the "General Vehicle" thread but I would like some feed back from those who have and currently do drive the '84 and '85 year trucks. I have a chance to pick one up for what seems like a very reasonable price but I wanted to make sure. Here is a link to my original post, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm sorry if this is viewed as cross posting but I'm looking for 2 opinions.
1.) Good Deal - In general is it a good purchase for the price.
2.) Specifics to the 84 and 85 trucks. Anything to look out for, area's to check, etc.

try this thread; very detailed feedback.

your link doesn't work so no idea about the price, depending on geography and condition it could be responable to pay $500 to $5000 for a 84-85 truck or runner. Typical condition with no rust and around 200K probably 1.5-3K with mods increases from there.

Fix your link. and read that one posted above.

cheers

Here's the other thread:

It sounds like a good enough deal for $500. Why does the ass end sag so much?

doesnt say wether its 4x4 or 2wd. if your project would be a prerunner then it wont matter i guess, but if it has a sfa, then even more reason to buy it. hell if its 4x4, and nothing works out, gimme the number ill drive to cali xD

it's a 85.

It looks like a 4wd but there is no transfer-case stick.
must be 2wd.

It looks like it is sagging so bad because whatever is in the bed is f'ing heavy.

I'm pretty sure if it is 2wd it will have IFS... (correct me if i'm wrong...)

i wouldn't buy it if it didn't have 4wd or a solid front axle. Of course i live in Minnesota and not AZ anymore...

tell you what if you buy it and it blows up on you i bet you can part it out for as much as you payed for it.
I'll even take the fiberglass fenders and stinger bumper of our hands

good luck

It's a 2wd as far as I can tell from the lack of a 2nd shifter or long front hubs. I'd be worth 6-700 easily around here for a rust free 2WD, half that cost is the fenders if they're of any quality, fuel injection is another bonus.

Ok, sorry everyone. YES it is 2wd. The ass end is sagging from my guess from whatever is in the bed. I'm trying to go see it today but for now we have arranged for a friday showing. I'll try and get some better pics when I go unless I just buy it on the spot.

Now was there any specific area's of these trucks (aka model/year) that I should pay extra special attention to?

Thanks

The truck is a 2WD 84 SR5 with P7/EFI fuel injection. I know because I own the exact same truck, all the way down to the blue color except mines a standard cab long bed.

The ass end isn't sagging; the idiot owner put oversized rims and tires on it. It should have 195/75/14 or 205/70/14 tires on it.

It is sagging, look at the angle of the truck. It's also possible someone bro-trucked it and lifted the front leaving the rear stock so he could get that "Sweet pre-runner look".

Did anyone else notice (besides the missing T-case) that the rear axle is a 5 lug? STOCK 4WD would be 6 lug.

As for rust issues, I'm spotting surface rust along the bed (looking closely the bottom of the bed sides actually seperates and is not one molded piece. At this particular intersection, it seems to want to rust.)

Mechanically, do you know what else is wrong. A truck for 500 bucks tells me 3 possible occurences: bad headgasket, bad clutch, blown motor. These typically give it that nice, little price here in California (minus posible backfees also).
