yet another weber question

ok, so I've done a lot of digging on the weber and found some really good info, but I still have one question, how do I tell what weber I have? and what is the primary difference between the solex and weber brand? I bought a used weber with a blown 22r (that has a performance cam in it) for 150.00, and an engine stand! the PO said I should change the jets since they were too much for the previous engine and were part of the reason he blew it. so I found the ID tag on the side, but I'm not sure how to look up the ID code. I've been looking around but havn't found a place to research them yet, any help would be appreciated. Also, for a daily driver what jet's would be a good place to start for reliability / fuel economy? I think my stockers slowly giving up the ghost and I've been told they can be quite the chore to rebuild.

thanks,

-Dan

Gonna need some more info on the carb you're looking at. Is it side draft? down draft? The difference between the weber 32/36 and the 38 (two common types on these trucks) is that the 32/36 is progressive (each barrel opens individually) and the 38 is synchronous (both barrels open at the same time). A picture of it would be very helpful.

There are also two 32/36 progressive carbs, the DGV(and AV/EV, and the DFV (and AV or EV). Take the air filter off and look at the top of the carb then compare to the pictures here http://www.racetep.com/webfilter.html if it's a progressive carb. The 38/38 is a DGS series carb. The 38/38 will have a little set of brass gears on the throttle linkage that is easily identified.

Ok guys, thanks. I'm pretty sure now that I have a 38/38. it's a down draft with the gears on the side opening both at once. I thought the difference betweent the 36 and 38 was just jet size. but I'm pretty confident now that it's a 38. I'll post pics later when I get home. also,is this a good model for a daily driver, or should I sell it and replace it with something more 'steetable'?

the model is stamped into the base.

youll be happy w/the 38 for perf, if you want better mileage, dont stomp on it(and rejet accordingly)

here's what it looks like. I think I'm going to re-jet and give it a try.

It is indeed a DGES. Looks like it could use a good cleaning, I'd do that before messing with the jets.

Definitely a 38/38. I second the cleaning. Before rejetting, make sure you try to tune it very well. From my experience with the 38 on my 22R, they are very sensitive and tuning can make a world or difference in performance and economy.
