Windshield washer not working

One of the things I plan to try and get working properly again this weekend is the windshield washers. The lines all look good, although I have not tried to blow through them. The reservior is full with fresh fluid, and not leaking. When inside the cab and I push the button I do not hear the pump working. All the fuses are good.

Like I said this is going to be a project for me and the FSM this weekend, test the lines, pump, wiring, and switch. Just looking to see if anyone had some advice.

Your not alone, i just discovered last weekend that my washer pump and wipers arn`t working, so i will be checking things also this weekend. When i got my 4Runner there was a rats nest up behind the glove box and i hope that its just some chewed wires and is easy to fix.

The diagnosis is really simple. There are only a few pieces in the whole system.

1.pump
2.switch
3.wiring & fuse

unplug the pump connector and check for power with either a voltmeter or a test light when you have a helper actuate the pump from inside the car. I use a 12v lightbulb (spare signal lamp 1156) with 2 wires soldered on. connect one wire to each contact in the pump connector.

if you have power to the connector, then your pump is dead.

if you have no power to the connector then you have a problem with your switch or wiring.

This was an easier fix than I thought it was going to be.

First blew threw the lines to make sure they were open.

Unpluged the pump connector, cheched for voltage, there were small fluxes in votage but not 12 volts.

I have doner truck so pulled the pump motor out of that one. Soldered the wire connector from the old one onto the one out of the doner. plugged it up, mounted the reservoir, filled with water. and it works just fine.

Dont quite understand what I was not getting 12 volts at the connector. Maybe my batteries are gong dead. Should have tried the 12 volt test light after the multimeter. But it works.

Thanks
