What gear is in these rearends?

I just got/started workin on my 85 4cyl. I have heard that the ifs trucks have a 3 inch wider rearend. My parts truck is a 88 v6 4-runner. I was wondering if the stock gears are different? Thanks

If both are manual transmissions, likely the same. You can look up what came from the factory:

Though I understand this is not always 100% accurate, if you remove the drive shaft frome the differential flange and look at the retaining bolt, you'll see it is painted. If the paint is pink, it's a 4:10........'n stuff

Check the Axle Code on the information plate on the firewall behind the engine. The code starts with a "G" then three numbers.

G072,G074=3.90

G292,G294=4.10

G282,G284=4.30

G252,G254=4.556

G142,G144=4.875
