Toyota tuck? is it a good choice

What so you guys think about this truck it's my dad's I believe it year 98. Would it'd be a good choice for a first truck ? .. engine is a V6 3.0 EFI. . It has not been moved for 3 years whatsoever. . a problem with the engine do to not moving for so long? Anew what do you think it's worth it's?

Is it free, or ungodly cheap?

Change fluids, plugs. Was gas left in the tank during storage?

It is free, and nope it had no gas in the tank

It looks like a 89-94 model. I have a 91 (my first vehicle) and love it to death. I also have the 3.0L V6, not a bad engine, I'm over 215,000 miles and it is still going strong. However many people feel it doesn't have enough power and swap it out for a 3.4L from the next generation models.

Check the front end for worn ball joints, and see if the head gasket has been replaced. The head gasket was a big issue for this engine. Double check the timing chain.

Depending on the year I'd adjust the valves well. The early models still have mechanical lifters instead of hydraulic and should be adjusted every 90,000 miles. I didn't notice any issue, but my mechanic recommended readjusting when I hit 200,000 miles. I adjusted them and immediately noticed a difference. It could pull gears much lower in the revs and ran noticeably smoother. Plus my fuel mileage went up a bit.

There are plenty of cheap parts available and it is very easy to modify.

Change all the fluids, plugs, drain the gas tank and lines. Replace the fuel filter, etc. Rebuilding the hubs will be a good idea too.

if it's a California vehicle, better check for dmv back fees, and you'll have to get it smogged before you can put it on the road.
