Well now I have peace of mind knowing the roll bar in the 4runner isn't totally useless and annoying.

I would vote for finding another late model year 1st gen and swapping bodies, preferably, one with all of the options that they didn't offer in 85. If you are going to go through the trouble, make it what you want.
