Tailgate Release Cables
#23
Here in Canada, they want 70 bucks a piece for those cables at the dealer. I tried all the bike shops with blank stares in return. Finally, I went to the pick-and-pull and found 5 cables from a couple second gens along with the steel window clamps. They work perfect, have the rubber ends to keep water out, and cost me $4.00 for everything.

Southern pick a part? Off Doug Barnard? It's ok. Not a massive selection of Yotas, but generally have a couple 3rd gen Runners and a taco or two. Rarely is there anything older. Augusta Pullapart has older trucks/Runners more often.

Okay, I have been playing around with the idea in my head for a few days and looking at the internet. Here's what I come up with if you can get the parts.
Start out with some Bicycle Cable

Then some cable housing what bikers call conduit.

Once you get the right length cut and set you have to put what the bikers call a ferrel on the end of the housing.

Once the ferrels are in on each end of the cable, you can use a adjuster to lock it in place as with the original one on each end.

To finish off you need to put a barrel on each end.

Just solder the cable into the barrel as you can see the hole is kind of a coned shape so when you fill it with solder the cable wont slip back through.
Remember its just an idea right now.
