tachometer check

Guys, I need help doing a tachometer check. I just installed it over the weekend and I'm not sure it's working right. I did make sure it's on the 4 cyl mode. I have a 84', 22R, 2 wheel drive, 4 speed trans with no major modifications.

I'm getting:

2500 rpm in 3rd gear at 40 mph and
3000 rpm in 4th gear at 65 mph.

It just doesn't sound right. . . it sounds like the engine is screaming compared to the rpm values.

If someone could help me out . . . .I would greaty appreciate it!

That web site is awesome, too bad I have no idea what my gear, rear or transfer case ratios are.

Is there anyone else that has a four speed trans, 22r that can help? I'm dying to know if this things is working right.

the older 22r motors always sound like there gonna explode when they rev out but they dont of course. My friend has the newer 22r(carb also) with the sqaure valve cover; he revs it to 5 or 6k without making any noise.

T-case is 1:0 (1.00) in high range.

Axle ratio is likely listed on your VIN/Model info plate:

4-speed gear ratios:
