I have an 85 SR5 with the 22RE that needs a new suspension. I would like to keep it close to stock, maybe a 1-2" lift? Does anyone have any suggestions, tips, tricks, etc.? I need to do this on the cheap so any help would be awesome!

Depends on your budget and tools/skills available. OME and Ironman make a replacement kit. I ink Rancho and Procomp have options for bolt in. Everyone else makes taller, weld on pieces kits. Personally I would get OME for a close to stock lift.

I would say I have about $700 (MAX) to spend on it...The leaf springs look awful flat or reversed and really clunks over ANY bump in the road...

Decision made for the rear at least! Going to use 63" chevys for that...

you have to move the hangers for that and ive heard they arent great one the road, i dont have them on mine so i couldnt tell you exactly.

Yodafan, what do you think would be the best/cheapest way to "redo" my springs/shocks?

i did pro-comp 3" springs in the front,13" 100lb blackmagic coils in the back with 5125 bilstiens all around.has a nice ride compared to the origional flat springs and was under $500.00!

well it depends what you want. more lift or load capacity, a comfortable road rig, or a setup with lots of flex. other than that i cant really recommend what you should get as i dont have that much knowledge on the subject. still learning it myself.

Cman, your rig is sweet! Diggin the 31s! How much welding/fab was involved?
Yodafan, I am really looking for increased load capacity/ability while maintaining some level of "comfort" while used as a daily driver...

no welding or fab!! the coils fit right over the bumpstops in the rear (zuk-mod) and the front springs were remove and replace. here's a pic of the rear suspension.

I am having a hell of a time finding replacement rear leafs...any suggestions or info on what other vehicles would "drop in" would be awesome!

Found a full set of 3" lift springs for $250!!!

If youre into welding go with chevy 63s or f150 springs for the rear and then work the rear leafs into the front pack for a super cheap lift. Then you can really adjust it to as high as you want. But that takes some welding and fab skills.

OK, so a set of 3" lift springs are on thier way north, 14" coils should be easy to find (if they'll work with the "new" rear springs, bushings need to be bought, and I need to find some shocks. Thoughts on shocks other than Bilsteins 5125's? It's not that I am against them, just want to know what my options are...that work well OR the specs that I would need on shocks, might be able to source some small shop handmade ones...
