Might let folks know what sort of truck you have, you posted in the '84-'85 section which is leaf springs front and rear. Also what is your intended use for the truck and what size tires you are planning to run.

i have an 85 PU, currently i have 2'' OME springs up front. it will be a dunes truck and baja not really crawling and trail riding. More for going fast over bumps and handling jumping in case it decides to fly.

Ya dude, we know what Baja runs are composed of. And really you should sell that solid axle truck to someone who's actually going to use it and buy an already IFS pickup, then all you have to do is switch out the a arms. This will not only help you but a fellow Toyota enthusiast immensely.

As far as brands go there is the Downey Grand Slam, Total Chaos Fabrication (several types with varying capabilities and prices) and I've heard of other brands but do not remember their names.

Probably just keep those springs up front and put something similar out back and then get some decent gas shocks, maybe some remote reservoir types. You could also add some air bump stops to cushion hard landings.

so far jumping the fronts look good, i have some video of it and the fronts respond nice, the backs are crap since they are stock though. i was thinking bilstein 5100 or 5125 shocks. the front shocks are actually out of a rubicon

Hey, are you any good at welding, cause the thing with any solid axle, when you jump them, they break easier....You are going to need to beef up those axles!!! I still need to get a solid axle truss...check out marlincrawler.com or trailgear.com for the beef up parts!!

You might look into ditching the leaf springs and 3-link the front axle: 2 links to hold it in place and keep axle wrap under control and 1 to keep it from shifting left/right (or some similar configuration)... and using coils for springs (possibly even coil-over-shocks).

IFS SWAP?!?! JK

Honestly I think you should sell it to someone who can actually USE the SFA, now don't get me wrong you can get some pretty slick long travel SFA setups, but IFS is sh'loads easier to work on, and put long travel to then a SFA. But your right its your truck, as long as you do it once and do it right you're doin good by me!

PS-IFS FTW! Haha, Seriously IFS is way better for pre running, notice EVERYONE runs it..

I want to build one too. sell your straight axle and buy a cheap 2wd. this one is an 85 (i think) that was posted by travisfab not very long ago, and it is bad to the bone!!!

if your serious about doing this imho you need to get rid of that straight axle
beacuse no matter what u do even if you link it u will break/bend things alot more often and simply wont be able to carry enough speed over whoops so that it would smooth.

if your dead set on keeping the truck i would cut out the front end and ditch the tcase sell it with the axle and swap in ifs.

ive been dealing with prerunning a long time

orrr

you could always i beam it!!!!

heres a pic of my ranger

Ironman Ivan Steward did it in a IFS truck and early 90's SA Land Cruiser. Both axles on the Cruiser were insanely beefed.

Man if you got the bucks you can overbuild anything.
Let us see it when you do it.
