Unhappy Sending out an SOS

I have an 85 Toy, with a 22R motor, 169K miles. I was driving home from work and noticed a smell like radiator fluid and before I could pullover I had overheated my truck. I got pulled over filled the radiator with antifreeze and water. I checked the distributor and it was wet so I dried it out and tried to start the truck.

It whirred and made a sound like the starter wasn't engaging but it was. So I had a buddy pull me to the house. Upon inspection of the dipstick there were no traces of water in the oil. So the same buddy pulled off the valve cover and the first 2 plugs and there was no water there either.

Next he did a compression test and said that I wasn't getting compression in the #1 and #2 cylinder. Or at least there was a significant drop. He advised that I had a blown head gasket. Is this correct?

Looking at the timing chain it is intact and looks to be in good shape, but the sprocket on the front of the cam that engages the rotor has some grind marks, and it looks like the gear may not be properly aligned. Could I have just jumped time? When I try to start it it sounds like the motor is turning but merely isn't getting any fire.

Someone please help me!!!!I appreciate it.

Did he do a leak down test to or a wet compression test to see why you're compression was low?

Well if ur compression is way down in 2 cylinders than something else is wrong. What is the psi on your cylinders? did u check them all?

My first truck did that, except I was parked at a gas station and it didn't overheat. It cranked up and ran fine for about 3 seconds, made a sound like something snapped, and shut off. Upon trying to re start I found that all it did was "whirr" like you describe. After I got into yotas more and learned a bit about them, I checked tension on the timing chain and it was loose as could be. I think what happened is that a timing chain guide snapped. Aside from your overheating problem I would say the same, but when someone more knowledgeable chimes in they should be able to give you a better answer. Hopefully this helps a bit...
