Rear end driveshaft bearing??

What is it called? Its the bearings in the rear end where there driveshaft connect. Is it a pinion bearing? im not talking about the center bearing in a two piece driveshaft, i have a one piece drive shaft. Are there any links on how to replace this? mine is worn out. I have play going into the rear end when i move the driveshaft around. Is it even possible to replace witout tearing apart my rear end?

At the rear axle, that is the pinion bearing. Try tightening the nut up first:

huh... i read on like 4x4 wire you preload that nut to like 20in pounds or somthing. Why is it supposed to be 90ft lbs?

Pre-load is defined as how much torque it takes to turn the pinion shaft in the bearings. That is set by either crushing the crush sleeve or with shims and a solid spacer, basically sets the distance between the two pinion bearings, less space = more pressure/pre-load on the bearings = harder to turn.

The torque on the pinion nut is what holds the flange to the pinion shaft. It should be approx. 90 ft-lb. Torques upwards of 130 ft-lb is used to crush the crush sleeve and alter the bearing pre-load. So you need tight enough to stop the flange from loosening, but not too tight so as to change the bearing pre-load.
