Heres the deal, I've got an 84 that I want to life a little bit 2-3" so I can run 32" or 33" with chains on.


Being a student money is tight to say the least. The guy I bought the truck off had an 83" that he had pressed the leafs on it to get the lift.

Is this a cheap and feasible way to do it? if so what are the downsides(other than a slightly rougher ride).

I once had a truck lowered by de-arcing the springs. It rode good, it just didn't get along well with speedbumps anymore. Just make sure the shop that does it knows what they are doing: I had to take mine back in after I noticed one side was lower that the other.

 

seems like add a leafs would be better for that goal and price.

 

How about a body lift?

If you get the leafs re arched, as i hear it , they don't always turn out even and the eventually sag back, so a waste of money.

If you want leaf springs that will lift the truck, try to find someone selling a 3" lift cause they are going bigger. Its what i did for my 83.

 

add-a-leafs cost me $40 and gave me about 2 1/2" of lift....really easy to put on, took about an hour. Oh and i had to get longer U-bolts made which cost $10 for a set of 4....with nuts and washers.

 

I've been looking for awhile haven't found a 3" for sale. I'm not too worried about it sagging out, in 2-3 years I'll be re doing the suspension completely. I just want a temporary fix till I'm done university.

As to a body lift, not gonna do that, I'll go suspension or nothing, just not a big fan of the body lift.

AAL would be a lot more cheaper

 

Add-a-leafs, best cheap lift. NOT a fan of lift blocks. Don't know about aal on front springs, no pers. experience. Oh, by the way, nice longbed, I got one an 88.

 

Body lift is ok, just dont go over 2" imho.

Add a leaf is where its at..

 

shackles help too.

 

I am a fan of the body lift if it is just to fit bigger tires. I have 3 inch an love it. No problems and fit 33x12.50 tires.

If you are wanting more wheel travel and such go with a suspension lift.

Just be honest with your self on what you are going to do with the truck the most.

BL's are fairly cheap.

if you want cheap, add a leaf is the way to go...if you have a lil more to spend, get new leaf springs from like downey or something

 

I've been looking for add a leafs I can only find them for the rear end, is there anybody who makes them for the front too?

I know this is a bit over the edge, however it might just fit your budget.

Here is two auctions on eBay, current price for them is $90 total w/o shipping. About $200 - 220 w/ shipping TOTAL.

4 springs, just right for your year!! Plus, 33's wouldn't look bad with these.

Re-arching is relatively cheap but usually only temporary. The process involves heating the leaves which then alters the metallurgy. Usually, they sag back to original (or lower) within a few years. Like others have said, go Add-A-Leafs.

 

Look at the clearance for the steering around the front springs. I think you'll find why there are no AALs for the front springs. No room! Only real option is to swap in a stiffer leaf for one of the existing leaves, but they are already pretty stiff to begine with, so a new pack is about the only real option other than longer shackles up front.
