I finally located the original shift knob so I could put the new shift knob insert on that I got back in February, I think. Before that we had the knob from my first new vehicle the 1990 pickup I had.
Foliage cruise with the 4runner in Vermont but I wasn't in it, my wife drove up to meet me at Molly Stark State Park where I was camping with the Commando. Then we cruised some of the less popular dirt roads both old vehicles did well. 150 miles to and from for both of us. Mount Olga Fire tower
Well I finally pulled the trigger and got a new soft top for the 4runner. Incidentally the old soft top is available to anyone who needs it. Local pick up . It works still.

Hey man pardon if this was in your thread somewhere but I’m getting more intrigued by your steel wheels with the caps, are they standard 15 inch steel wheels with land cruiser caps? I’ve seen some on eBay that are for older cruisers but just seeing what era and models these were used on so if I decide to go that route I know what to look for

Those are the wheels you have seen on E Bay. Toyota LandCruiser 1969-84 Wheels & hubcaps. I take the hubcaps off in the winter. I've also seen them on a FJ Cruiser now. Not sure how they did it or if there is a 17 inch version but the set we put on our 85 4runner is 15 inch. I like it!
Sweet, I love the retro look of them but I’m just not 100% sure on where the retro ends, I do think they look better on your runner than they would on my 91 pickup BUT they may mesh very well….
Well I’m not due for tires for a while but maybe by then I’ll decide thanks for the reply and have a super weekend!!

speaking of hubcaps....
today is officially the first day of top off. The new top is a total different fit when folded up.
And I put a new set of pads on also.

I finally got to ride in the 4runner top off this year. Our friends got a Jeep and have been itching to do some wheeling with it. The weather forecast was OK till they took the top off the Jeep then they were calling for T Storms in town. We were east of all of it so the weather was great out there but on the way back we ran into rain. We got the soft top back on just before getting wet. They made a run for it and got back just as the storm hit though.
also the other day I hit the snow blower in the garage. It's a tight fit getting the 4runner in with a 65 Beetle in a one car garage. I broke the passenger side maker light. It's Chinese junk but the originaoriginals were in bad shape. The new Chinese ones look a lot better. Not high quality but really nice.
the old Chinese one below.
the glue looks like crap on these.
Flying solo today, well I did have my hiking buddy though. Last time we were out here I noticed a blue blazed trail here that I've never seen before so went to investigate. I thought it was going to run a little closer to Bigelow Brook but it kinda meandered away. I'll need to head out earlier next time so I can hike it further and make my way to Bigelow Hollow State Park where it may lead to. It looks to be a real interesting hike through some fairly remote area.
Plus a photo shoot with Black Beard. The dog doesn't love 4 wheeling 🤣
Spotted this one at my lunch stop at an old general store that has a killer deli.
had to see if the Commando could do what the 4runner can do. It does just a little faster, 4 Low isn't as low as the 4runner.
we've been so busy with everything else this year and the weather was raining so much that this is the first time to take the 4runner out to Vermont. It was an extremely hot day for it but nice and cool at this river. I dunked my shirt just before heading back home and it was dry by the time we reached Mohawk trail.
I'm trying something else to fix the worn out shift knob. The replacement decal last a couple weeks. So now I found a shift knob for an FJ 40. I just needed to tap it for the thicker shift lever.
e bay find.
We haven't done a trip with the 4runner like this in a long time. We haven't been through this part Green Mountain National Forrest in a couple years also so we took a trip out there yesterday. Even though it's kinda busy during the holiday weekend we found a spot to stop and do up some burgers. On the way back, just before getting out of the Forrest, the exhaust ripped open just ahead of the catalytic converter, so it was a straight pipe four banger for 80 miles. RT 7 Rt 7 Readsburo VT I opted to put the top on because it was a little cool up there.
