Project: 3 in 1

Well, I have 3 threads on here that I'm turning into one (this one) and the real purpose for this thread is what it is.... 3 in 1.

I will be taking 3 diff. 85 yotas and turning them into 1 vehicle. (money is tight, im a college student paying as I go, I only have $400 wraped up in all three vehicles as of now, thats purchased and at home)

The following links posted here are the 3 that I have started and now will continue on in thie one thread.

1st-Pics of my new TOY

2nd-Wheel question?

3rd-Rig went threw flood. Need help!
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f123...d-help-147659/

Now that it will be a nice 3 day weekend for me, I plan on getting some things done with these three trucks and I'll post my progress over this weekend. I will try to keep up-to-date postings as far as what my plans are, what I have done, and what I need help with.

!LET THE BUILD BEGIN!

July 4th, 5th, & 6th update

Well, I got some work done over the last week and here is how it went.

July,
4th-Went north an hour and picked up the red 85 for $200. Has a very good cab on it (compared to mine) only needing 2 patch spots on the floor, a few small spots of rust on the passenger side xtra cab, and some dents on the roof. All the glass is good and got the tittle to it as well. The guy I bought if from (dingman here) had bought it for the same purposes I have for it.... a parts truck. Only things I didnt get with it was the front axle, trans, T/C, and interior. All things un-needed to me. Any who, got back with it and 3.5 hours later had it ALL torn down, body off frame, rear axle out, frame cut up and gone (was junk), and cleaned the shed after. Me and a buddy did it all. Got to use our new cordless saw-zaws

5th-I have a race quad and well, it was broken from last summer so I decided to dedicate a day to fixing it. Didnt get anything done with the yoters other then moving them around in the back yard so it dosent look so much like a junk yard.

6th-Started to strip the whole wiring harnes outa the blue truck and mark everything as I disconnected and took out.

Still working on it and will hopefully get it out and the cab off this weekend.

Weekend 11th, 12th, 13th update

11th- continued on trying to get the wireing harness out of the blue truck. Did have much time Friday with other things going on but go a good jump on it for sure.

12th- Got the complete harness out, after- striping dash down, steering colum out, carpet, and all guages, etc. Does NOT look to be fun putting back in. However I marked and taged every connection and what not with numbers and locations in order to figure out what gos where and what it connects to if anything at all.

13th- I am only on man.... I had to figure out how I was going to do this all with out the help of anyone else, or so I thought. Everyone I had planed on helping me was either out of town or busy at the time I needed help. (usually their are 4-5 friends just around lol) Oh well, I got out the trusty ol' saw-zaw and first cut of the front clip in front of the cab and pulled it off. Now for the cab, hmmm.... Well I decided to get the box off first so I could roll the cab back and not have to worry about the engine taking any damage. Just as I start to lift the box from the front wanting to push over and off the back (junk box) a couple buddys (my dad being one of them, and cousin the other )show to help and well got it off with much less efort. As for the cab, My dad and I tipped it back then shuved it off the side...roll #2 ... and it was time to clean up and put things in an organized manner in the back yard.

I'll get all of these pics up as soon and I can! Sorry for the delay I just havent had time to download all of them. By this next weekend I'll have them posted.

A late shot of it after being half way torn down. Got one tire mounted to see if a 12.5 wide tire would fit on an 8 inch wheel. It does!

Today I will be swaping wheels and tires. I got some 1/8" steel to plate 2 spots on the frame right under the doors. They are not holes yet but can tell its getting ready to become just that.

I am planning on doing a custom frame from the back of the cab back. I was thinking of using 2x4x1/4" steel tubing. I also want to build it to fit some chevy leafs in the rear so I dont have such a long shackel in the rear. Any thoughts on this? I read that some people have problems with a shake between 55-70mph.... what causes this? What can do to eliminate it? I will also be putting the rear leafs up front for some more lift. Any heads up on things to do and look out for before I start this? What about shocks? It needs to be cheap because im on a TIGHT budget. This will be a DD as well.

Okay, if I go with the Chevy springs in back, I am building a custom rear frame. (no matter what) The yellow is the stock frame the brown being the new custom. The rear of it to the left and would be boxed in as well. As you can see I have brought the back down some. By doing this can I re-use the stock shackles not needing to make longer ones? The green would be custom made mounts for the frame where I need them. The red being the stock shakle. I dont need to worry about draging, no rocks to crawl up here in Iowa, just river mud.

I live in Iowa so rock crawling is slim to none around here. It will mostly be ALL MUD for me, and the occasional jump of coarse.

Well, still not done with my buddys intake and valve cover or got very far on the truck. I did however 2 days ago stumble upon an old full size pick up frame behind my grandparents place in the woods.... Its been up on bricks (just the frame and front solid axle) for over 40 years!!! Its off a mid 50s Ford truck and is like new!!!! No rust holes or even the start of any rust. Most of it is straight "[" chanel frame. I think I may use this to do my rear frame from under the doors all the way back. It is much more heavy dutie then the yota are by far. My only consern is that it WILL be much heavier then b4. Think this will make a large differance on my suspention and motor performance?
