power window motor upgrades?

hey guys..

my pass. side window regulator/motor is on its last leg.. i have to help it up otherwise it just stops cold about 4 inches from closed..

my drivers side is faster but due to a botched weather-stripping job, the window never has sealed completely and a tooth is ground off the assembly..

my question is as follows...
is there a certain kinda motor that i can swap in relatively easily..?

i have fab skills.. but bolt on is always nicer..

Should be able to use any '84-'88 pickup or '84-'89 4Runner power window assembly for sure. Not sure about later models, but I think the motors may be the same there.

is there anyone that has an aftermarket kit with some stronger servo action?

Try and find out what is making yours run slow and fix it. One issue on the '85s is there is no relay for the power windows, so all the current flows through switches, passenger side is worse since you have both driver's side and passenger side switch contacts in play. You can clean up the switches to work better:

Or you could add relays to get more voltage to the motors, or retrofit an '86 or later power window wiring harness. I think those have relays.

thanks again for the 411.. after reading through that and although it seems a worthwhile procedure.. i dont think im in the same ballpark..

both my switches work at all times.. its just that the pass side window is slower than cold 20w/40 ! ive taken the door panel off and lathered the internals with silicone spray lube only to have it fixed for a couple months..

im starting to think its a power draw issue..

tell me more about these relays.. how hard would it be to splice the harness in? what am i lookin for?

Never looked at the later model harnesses, so no idea on how hard to swap, but have heard of it being done, so not impossible. For how to relay an up/down lotor, see below:

You can use a pair of relays with double contacts to send power-ground or ground-power to the motor terminals.

hey man a friend of mine used some camry motors , his 4runner did not have power windows though, but they work awesome the windows roll up and down really fast.
I will see how much diffrent they are compared to the 4runner motors.
