I got an 85 with a 22re I ran the oil ran low and the engine began to rattle I decided it was the timing chain I replaced it and there were knock mark on the cover. It is still rattling and I think it is due to a lack of oil pressure ( my gauge doesn't work). Is there a common problem with the pump that is an easy cheap fix. I'm straped for cash and I'm tired of driving my Ford.

 

Did the chain get sloppy and eat into the timing cover? What was the condition of the guides? Coolant in oil?

Oil pump replacement isn't hard. Search a bit and you will find threads regarding this.

 

The guides weren't terrible and everything else looked fine I replaced it anyway I think the problem is the pump but I'm hoping it could be clogged or have lost prime. The new pump is 90 bucks and I don't have the cash.

 

You should give it up and sell it to your buddy down the road for scrap metal prices lol.
