some better pics. the fenders and rockers as well as the bed have been line-x'd by the previous owner. very happy with the truck. its got an e-locker in the rear, an aussie locker up front and 4.7 gears in the t-case. I plan to replace some of the faded interior parts, install an inclinometer and dash mat, replace carpet, etc., and possibly down the line a 2" OME lift. Trying to keep this one as close to factory as I can, while still having a capable truck.

what do you guys think of my new to me 84 4x4, only 128k miles! it seems a good truck for the money, worthy of upgrades and add ons! am i right? i already know it needs supension, timing chain, bucket seats, maybe paint, bedliner and new tires/wheels, stereo, probally brush bumbers and winch too! all that adds up quickly and im on a budget! taking it in for full inspection tomorow, i will update when i know more. im wondering what peoples thoughts are about putting work into a low miles truck like this vs buying one that has had work done including upgrades. how about thoughts on putting work into a truck like this and how it retains resale value down the road?<br />

As someone who bought their 84 in absolutely crap condition for cheap, you could learn from my mistakes.
Brakes. Carburetor. Suspension.
Do these things before you buy mud tires, a brushguard, or any fancy stuff like that. Don't know your plans / intentions but I can tell you from experience the basics are where you need to start.
How do you know it needs timing? Does it run at all? Compression test. Find out everything you need to do to your engine before you do anything to it. Example: spend XXXX on timing chain and labor etc... Only to find out it needs a head or something. Be 200℅ sure about what you need.
yeah, there is work to be done on brakes, carb suspension! payed 2800 defiantly used as a truck, but the mileage got me at 128k! overall its in decent condition. i can put the work into it as money is available
A buddy with a Marlin dual cased, SAS 95 4Runner and my 85 Marlin dual cased Xtra-Cab went to Azusa Canyon today and it was nice playing in the mud and watching guys get pulled out of the deep stuff.
Just realized that I've never posted any pictures of my 85. It's nothing special, but it is really straight and has zero rust. Plus, it gets nearly 30 MPG on the highway. Just shy of 231k. The picture of it with rusty wheels was before I purchased it. I'll have to get some pictures of the interior.
Pulled the valve cover off the other day to look at the timing chain guides after reading about the troubles with the plastic ones. It had a timing set put in at 138k and they were nice enough to install metal guides. Pretty dang clean in there too.

Nice truck. I actually like those wheels because they look so good on it. Idk. I love bone stock 2wds..

Yeah, the picture isn't great. Your v8 experience wouldn't help you though, it's a v-10 that replaced the bad one in my 99 dodge. All the '80 gets used for is hauling engines around the property. It smokes horribly, leaks a quart of oil in a day, has no power and the clutch slips if you breathe on the pedal. Poor 20R.

Reminds me of the late 70s Chevy luv we used on a farm in high school. I don't think that thing left the property for 20 years lol. Some jerk we hired convinced us he wanted to restore it so we sold it to him for $100. He scrapped it and the boss fired him for it LOL
LOL, serves him right. This one leaves the property every once in a while and people always stare and laugh at it. It's great.
The luvs exhaust was rusted out and if you popped the throttle a few times it would make a hilarious BOOM. Scared the hell out of the cows. Good times. Farm trucks own.
