Did you really drive that small cabbed truck across the USA? In November of 1993 I drove from Long Island to Albuquerque in a 1984 Datsun pickup and that was when I knew Datsun and small cab trucks weren't for me.
The next time you're gonna be rolling in So Cal, let me know so maybe we can wheel it together.

I'm only so tall, so the single cab works for me; the toolboxes my brother built are a life-saver though, especially on the street in Brooklyn. I don't have space in my tiny apartment for my compressor, tools, lubricants and fluids, etc. so all that lives in the boxes. When I drove across, all I had in the truck was my camping gear and a bit of city clothing; all my crap went by uhaul pod.

I'm hurting for dirt here, but that's given me time and money to focus on maintenance instead of getting bigger tires and a bull bar

 

I grew up on Long Island and was born in East New York, Brooklyn.
I've heard it is all different now with hipsters living where I and countless others used to do gnarly drugs but, I gave up that life and got away from the nasty humidity of the Island trading it for So Cal sun which has been kind of scarce lately.
Anyway, you have a lot of wheeling to do upstate so get your rig ready during this cold, wet New York winter then go north into the Catskills or further north into the Adirondacks and find some trails, they're out there with your name on them.
Have fun if you can in the most overpopulated city on the continent, NYC.
Oh yeah, go eat a slice of pizza for me, get it from any Guido's or Vinnie's pizza place you come across with a proper pizza oven and no pineapple or friggin ham like these fruitloops do here in Cali.

 

Yeah, I'm probably one of those hipsters, living in Crown Heights with an apartment full of bicycles and artisan mustache wax! They've penetrated pretty deep into Bed-Stuy, but I think there's still a White Castle in East New York, so maybe there's still hope

the truck is stock height and fits the 31's with minor rubbing at full lock. I attribute that to sagging stock springs with 325k-ish miles on them. I just picked up some FJ steelies that I'm going to be putting on it shortly

I am planning to put new spring on the truck for stock height or possibly 1-2" lift. Truck is a daily driver, and while its got an e-locker in the rear and a lock-rite in the front and 4.7 gears in the tcase, i want to keep the truck at stockish height and restore it. Ive got another truck that is a wheeler.

 

Perfect. I'm looking to put proper AT's on soon (I've got highway tires on for fuel efficiency) and there's a whole lot more variety of AT tires in 30" or 31" than there is in the stock metric size. (plus, you know, bigger tires = more uff-da) My truck is mostly for camping trips, with a little light wheeling here and there, so I have similar lift goals.

 

( 31" Kenda klevers 6 ply weigh about the same as an A/T but cost less than BFG ko2s and I ride them on the highway every day! Just a friendly suggestion )

New to me rust free 85 22R!

 

Just picked up a 1985 Toyota pickup 4x4 with 22r and 5 speed from the original owner none-the-less. Unfortunately the motor is seized so I'm in the process of getting it unstuck.
