AHhhhhman...I got the blue's. i want my yota back. I had to sell my 85 cause it dropped a valve and the rings were going south. Meaning it wouldn't get me to work 8-5 monday through friday. Without immediate work i was immobile. Trying to find an engine in my area is only possible when you think you dont need one and after you've sold your truck. I couldn't find one to save my life for the first month of not driving my truck. That was a sad time but i'd almost rather have a broken rusty ol '85 yota with "oversized tire's" (as my mom calls it haha) than the Ford probe i bought after. They're great cars and i've owned a few, but its snowing. ..No more parking on snowbanks, no more amazing heater that cooks your bones cause your in tight quarters, and no more of those days where the weather is wicked bad and it seem's like your the only one driving on the road cause even the roads have a foot of snow on them. I miss my truck. I'm in the process of finding another. Enjoy your's guys! Sorry for venting. I actually read through the stolen rigs section to get my head up some. I'm sorry for anyone that has had to post they're yota up in that secion. Stay strong guys.
Yota's for life.....as soon as i find someone who wants to trade theirs for a probe

Picked this up for 100$ on a guys ranch outside Reno. The red all over it is fire retardant for a near by fire last summer. I got down and scrubbed most the red off and stripped the interior. Got lots of plans for this and a pile of parts ready to go. Will post a build thread as I get some more progress done. Here's just a few

Please please please please tell me you pulled the rear drivshaft out of that white truck before you towed it on a dolly like that. If not you may be needing a new transmission/t case...

Nope did not pull the drive shaft out. 5sp trans in neutral , tcase in 2hi. Only went a few miles through town. If ya didn't notice all those trannys in front of the truck in the last pic, I work at a tranny shop. Have towed many times. If I were hitting the freeway and going long distance I would have pulled it. But no need for the short pull this time. Good looking out though.

I understood that there was some sort of fluid transfer issue due to gearing design. Fluid wouldnt circulate since there was no input from the trans output shaft. Or something like that...

Once apon a time when I was 16 and flat towing my Toyota I read the owners manual and it said to put trans in neutral and tcase in 2hi. Have done it like that for years when tows were needed for me or friends. Never trashed a tranny yet. When the rear drive line spins ,the rear of the tcase is as well, pretty sure if the rear shaft is spinning it's gears will be picking up enough oil to lube it for short distance low mph tows. It would be like you putting your truck in neutral while coasting , or going downhill in neutral , no harm done in that I would imagine.

I picked this one up for 700$. It didn't even have a rear axle under it, but came with a header and a weber. Dude said it wouldn't run, but i had it started in twenty minutes, after i paid for it.

Day it came home.It had a full size utility bed on it that I traded for a stock bed.

Unfortunately someone deleted most of my pictures from when I picked it up. The entire engine was covered with an eighth inch thick layer of oil and grease. My axle is still really nasty, but I'm going to take care of that when i put on my trail gear rebuild kit.

You're truck looks awesome. What size wheels and tires are you running. Just picked up an 85 4 runner in the same color and I like what you did with yours.
Thanks.

Here's some pics of my 85!

oops... meant to post in thread... how do i delete this??

I bought this truck on Craigslist in Sacramento, flew out from Buffalo, NY, and drove it home last December.

Its an 85, efi, long bed, 3" alcans, old school warn winch mount, 12,000lb winch, 31x10.5 bf a/t's, etc.

Intended as an expedition rig, with a Maggiolina sleeper on top of the ladder rack. Heres a few pics from some of the adventures this past year.

I've always wondered about how nice those sleepers are. I don't really camp with my truck all that much though. I usually have to hide it in the woods and hike somewhere.

Maggiolina

I used to car stealth camp when I was younger- drive till I couldn't go on and then pull the car off the road and pitch a tent and I used to have a Tacoma with a cap and would sleep in the back of that once in a while. Both tent and cap were nice enough, but the combo of 85 Hilux and maggiolina are really great.
This truck is small enough to go places I couldnt in my Tacoma and its nice to have the bed clear for hauling gear and dogs. It sleeps two and is completely water proof, plus my 44 year old back likes the mattress!
