if my memory serves .. the aap is a "triangle shape" only 3 holes . the acceleration pump is 4 hole and square .

edit .. found a pic for you .

just fired it up hit it 2 pumps and it fired up and stalled hit it 1 pump and it fired back up. When it gets cold in a couple of days that will be the test? I replaced the the pump diaphram.I know the old one was 24 yrs. old but it looked o.k. to me but there might be more to it than meets the eye?

They are just diaphrams with a spring easy to change. They didn't seem to have any holes in them but I can tell a differance. I bought a carb rebuild kit from autozone and have been using parts off it. I use to have to pump it ten times then it still didn't wan't to crank

i bought a rebuild kit to from auto zone but i was just unsure about it. yea if i go out and try and start my truck it cranks and cranks for like 30 seconds until it catches and fires up, then runs like a dream except when i floor it it boggs down then speeds up.

Not long just study the diagram on this page of the aap and accelerator pump or the rebuild kit should have come with one also. both of them are on the front take your time and it will be easy. Let me know the status.

Do you let it warm up for a few minutes then pop the gas and it idles down. If I take off in mine and its cold it would bog. Is it o.k. when its warmed up?

Yes swap out the two and you will be pleased. it still may or maynot bog when its cold but if you want it to last forever I wouldn't drive it cold. I just went out and tried the 83 it is 38 degrees and I gave it 2 pumps and it fired up like I shot some cocaine in it.

I have a screwdriver with the pac of innerchangable ends that go in it. I just got the one that fit the screw and clamped some small needle- nose vise-grips on it and made a sideways screwdriver. Like I said its a be patient with it job. I found my cure when I did the accelerator pump on the other side but its a good idea to do both

well i swapped out my aap yesterday was very time consuming...but this morning,i just turned the key (w/o pumping the pedal) and it fired up real quick..then died....then i pumped it once and it fired up again and stayed running...is this just normal with carbs? also i couldn't tell if it was gas or water coming out of my exhaust..is that normal too?
