LOL! I haven't heard or read 'jank' in a LOOOOOOOONG time!!!
I don't think your transmission is grinding if it's happening with the clutch depressed and released. If you think it's coming from that area I'd look more towards the clutch itself (throwout bearing maybe?).
Have you checked for vacuum leaks yet?

Okay, I think I'm gonna have the shop do an inspection when I have them replace the catalytic converter, so I'll mention the throwout bearing.
I have not checked for vacuum leaks, but is that where you spray some carb cleaner near the hose to see if there is a change in the rpm or something?

It's been awhile, but in the past few weeks I've taken it to the shop to get an inspection done, and also replaced the distributor cap and rotor and wires. So the shop said that it only needs the exhaust repaired, but it needs a new alternator, a new radiator, and a new carburetor. I can also tell that it needs a new brake master cylinder as well as the part below it (not sure of the name, but it's not the booster). Anyways, I haven't done any of that work yet, but I have noticed that the exhaust is really smelly and there is a black liquid coming out of the tail pipe. I'm hoping that there could just be an issue with the fuel mixture due to the bad carb, and once that is replaced it will be okay. I do still need to replace the valve cover gasket, but it is freezing here with about 5 or 6 inches of snow, so I don't really want to dive into it just yet.

Thought that I might as well give it a try, so I went out and finally got the valve cover off. I'm kind of at a stand still though, as I would like to check and adjust the valves and then paint or at least clean up the valve cover. There was some milky stuff at the front inside of the valve cover, but I couldn't really tell where it was coming from. As soon as I can get this computer to work, I'll get some pictures up.
Okay, here we go.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/109250620@N03/11257304995/

So today I went out to clean up the valve cover before I replace the gasket. Unfortunately it's snowing here and I got a little bit of snow on the rocker arms, maybe I'll just shoot it with a bit of WD40 so it doesn't cause any rust. Anyways, I used a wire wheel on my drill and got the valve cover pretty clean. I may just want to do a clear coat to keep the look of it though. Going pretty slowly, but I replaced valve cover gasket, and even got the carb rebuilt. There were some crusty brake lines, and I also wanted better access to the tank, so we ended up pulling the bed. It really wasn't too hard (After I borrowed my neighbors impact wrench) and I only had to cut one bolt. I plan on painting this part of the frame, and replacing the differential fluid while I'm there. Yesterday we got it to run again after replacing the alternator, radiator, and bolting on the carb. I ran into some problems with the coolant though, which it might be the thermostat, but I'm not sure.

I was using a wire wheel to clean up some rust to repaint some of the frame and differential. Anyways, I found this rust hole, maybe like slightly larger than a quarter, but I was just wanting to get your guys's opinion on it. The metal seems kind of thin around it, but I didn't want to start hacking away at it or anything. Also, the plug holes on the outside of the frame have a lot of rust. Most of the plugs are missing, which is probably why there is rust, but is that something to worry about? I hit it pretty hard with a screwdriver, and although I can stick my finger in there and feel a lot of broken off rust, and metal, it feels really solid.
