Talking Lifts

I have a 1985 toyota 4 runner and the stock suspension is basically shot. I want to put a 6 inch lift on it but all I can find is 7 or 5 inch lifts. Is there anybody that makes 6"? Also I am contemplating on putting 33's or 35's, suggestions would really help.

try trail-gear or marlincrawler or all-pro.com. and with 33s or 35s your gonna want to regear. im runnin 33x12.50s on stock gears and its not fun, its okay but sluggish. 4.88s for 33s 5.29s for 35s. why do you want so much lift? if you HAVE to have that much lift, just go 5 or 4 suspension and 2 or even 1inch body

Yeah, stay as low as possible to fit the biggest tire you can with the gears you have/put in. This will keep your COG down and ego up. Good luck!

Oh, it'll still flex! Just gotta trim the fenders, add some long shocks, and setup your bump-stops correctly. That 4runner is a bit extreme but shows the basic idea of lifting a vehicle....or not lifting a vehicle in that case hah.

4" of total suspension lift is sufficient for 35s. Any smaller tires and it will look stupid. Any larger tires and you will have to tub the firewall.

No doubt, the price of rubber has gone through the roof.

I pref. the look of 35's with 4"-5" of lift. Any bigger and you're just asking the break something. I run 33's though because of the challenge it leaves you. Being able to completely roll over a trail just isn't my idea of fun. Plus it's cheaper and you only need 3" of lift roughly.

I have 5" lift on my 4runner with 33" tires. I plan on running 37" someday that why I went with 5".

Here's a picture of how close it come to the fender. Consider moving the axle forward, I wish I had when I installed the springs.
If you can, get cross over steering, I have real bad bump steer with a drop drag link.

As far as gearing goes I've run 33" tires with 4.11 gears and pertty much lost 5th gear, and gave the clutch a pertty good work out. Good luck and post some pictures.

Normal steering is what we have on our trucks from the factory.

Crossover steering slash hi-steer is:
(brings your rods up over the leafs and goes from the pitman arm ALL the way over to the pass hub, then back over to the drivers hub. Great to get rid of bump steer and keep your steer components away from rocks.)

With hi-steer no, with stock steering it's probably going to need a little work.
