Knocking after headgasket job.

Well, I've replaced my head with Ted's street/rv head and the oversized valves. but I didn't get new rockers. I have a knocking sound coming from the Topend I believe. The vave adjustment has been checked three times now. the knock doesn't occur when the engine is under a load but it does occur at idle and light throttle appliction. It is fine at cruise speed.
I know I have some vacum leaks but I don't think that is my problem.
The only thing in the top end that hasn't been replaced is the rocker assembly leading me to believe that this is the problem. The vehicle idles very high,so when switching gears when the clutch is applied the knock is unavoidable. I assume the high idle is due to the vacum leaks.

How high is the idle? Do the rocker arms have any noticeable play in them? Are you sure it's not a bottom end knock? Like a bad connecting rod bearing maybe. Sometimes when you replace the head on an engine with higher miles it can blow out the bottom end due to an increase in compression.

Could it be your timing chain slapping around?

The knock is only at certain rpm if a load is added to it and you increase the throttle it clears up at an estimated 3,00rpm to 4,000rpm.
I don't believe my valve cover is on too tight. I'm not ruling out that it is the bottom end but the sound seems to originate from the top end.
