How to identify a 5-spd

Hey guys, I just picked up a used Toyota 5 spd and transfer case for cheap. The guy wasn't sure what it came out of. I'm looking to do a swap into my 85 4runner, how do I find out if the tranny I bought is the right one? He thinks it came out of an 87 4runner but not 100% sure. I have pics if it helps. Thanks, Smoke

post up a pic and I will tell you.

EFI Trannys are Top shift cases
Carb and Turbo trannys are forward shift cases

If it came from an 87 4runner, its a Top Shift with 6 bolts holding down the actual trans shifter plate. (4 more hold down the tcase shifter)

I believe that if you look at thie shift knob... the numbers should count up to 5. And there's a little stick behind the big stick.

lol Sorry, I couldn't resist being a smart ass. The subject line tickled my brain

Unless it is a later model EFI, they will have W56C, D or E trannys with forward shift t-cases with EFI.

Automatic drivelines are different lengths. You will need new shafts.

Assuming you are doing a MT conversion, you will need the following parts:

Transmission with TCAse
Drivelines
Shifter Assys
Pedal assy
Master cylinder
Slave cylinder
Hard Line from master to bracket
Soft line from bracket to slave
Someway to bypass Neutral Safety switch, as the MT vehicles run on a Clutch start set up.
