Help rebuilt 22re not running right now

I have a 85 yota pickup 4x4 that I rebuilt, everything is new other then the block and crank. I made sure that I didn't f up the timing chain. I got all my vacuum lines back as they were.

Now i start it and it shacks really bad and i got the spark timing down to 5* with my timing light, it idle okay for the most part and then when i give it some gas it back fires like crazy and then if i keep going to stall's out kinda then once it drops back down to 1000 rpm it idles again. someone said that i should look TPS

Sounds like the timing is off.

timing as in timing chain or distributor ? and if it is the distributor can you tell me how you time the gears with the cam gear and the distributor gear ?

This shows reasonably well what the distributor rotor should look like at TDC and the rotation it does as you engage/disengage it from the cam gear.

so I was talking to a guy at work about my truck and he said that I need to jump t1 and e1. but after telling him that I don't have a diagnostic box and having him look at it he said that my truck was one of the older ones where I needed to pull and block a vac line to time it anyone have any ideas ?

For an '85, you want to jump the 2-wire connector circled in blue on THIS PAGE in order to get correct timing readings. Read that whole page carefully, big help.

Okay so ends up that my Cap just happen to brake as I was putting the motor back in, and wasn't making a spark on the 2 3 4 cylinders and now she starts up and all the pistons are running, now she is idling Way to high around 1500 and if I give it any gas the motor cuts out as if it died then once it gets back down 1500 ish she turns back on or starts running again, could this be the tps ? and or could it be anything else that I should look at ?

Your issue sounds a lot like THIS THREAD FYI

I would re-check all your vacuum stuff. Carb cleaner or propane torch (gas only) sprayed around hoses to see if RPM changes. I've had a few idle issues since my timing set replacement, 1 was a vac hose and the other is still probably vacuum, I just need to find it.

Just a random vacuum line that came off when I was tugging on everything to get the valve cover off. I'm not even sure I could pinpoint again which one it was. My idle symptom was ~1200 RPM that cut down to 900 for a second every 3 seconds or so while the brakes were applied. I may have leaky booster issues, too, and that's in the works, but it doesn't do that when the vacuum hoses are all plugged in.

okay sorry it has been some time from the last up date so i got the timing down right it was 180 on the cap, so new problem is when i have my foot on the gas and i give it around 10% throttle truck feels great, when i give it anymore then it seems like it falls on its face. I put a 86 TPS in even tho it was a 85, and sent it to the settings with the feeler gauge put it in and same thing is happening any ideas ?

I'm swapping my tps back out right now as I think it is failing and causing the same issue; any sustained rpms at a specific throttle %: 30-40 makes it stumble and buck. I have a megasquirt though, so I can actually watch the throttle% gauge bouncing around despite me holding it steady.

I have an 84 with efi swap from an 86, after mine warms up if I try to hold it at 1800rpms it will cut out, rpm's drop and then back up. It doesn't do it when when the motors cold. I can drive through it but it is annoying, either have to shift gears or change speed to avoid sitting at 1800 rpm's.

I was thinking it might be the tps, one of the tests on mine showed out of spec, it's set to spec now but I haven't had a chance to test drive it yet. I've also been told to check the intake tube and elbows for any cracks and obviously vacuum lines, all of which look to be fine on mine.

that sounds a lot like what mine is doing the only diff in those is the motor turning off mine stays on but it seems to fall on its face and i'm guessing is dump fuel and IT SUCKS! so once i find out what it is on mine ill let you know and if you find something out you let me know
