Heat Shield Needed?

22REC engine

Do i need the heat Shield around the exhaust manifold? All but one of my bolts has broken off in the header and it is only hanging by one...

Would i risk melting or causeing damage to the hoses in the general area if i do not have the heat sheild on?

Let me know if you have your shield on!

Also anyone know an affordable header replacement?

Thanks

M

Probably not essential, I run a header without any heat shielding aside from the ceramic coating and the OEM exhaust manifold gasket and no problems:

Just make sure your spark plug wires are held up along the valve cover. Once on a trail ride, one fellow had a plug wire fall on the exhaust and short out when the insulation melted.

The heat shield has broken off every truck I've had. I guess if you really wanted you could drill out the bolt holes and re tap them, but it isn't going to hurt anything to leave it off.
