I had these after market head lights in my truck and they worked but then I had no low beams I played with fuses and wiring and then I lost high beams, I thought it was head lights them selves so I bought new ones. Then I still have the same problem fuses are all good relay is good I hear it click. But nothing happens. How do I check for power at head lights? Where else do I check for power and how need truck on road asap!!! My truck is 1991 yota pickup sr5 3.0 v6

 

I got no head head lights in the front at all bought new ones and lights and wiring and still nothing any ideas?

 

Go to your local Harbor freight, buy a volt meter. Start a new thread. Include photos of the meter. Include details on the lights you bought, brand model number, and any wiring diagrams they provided.

And you searched for "Headlight Troubleshooting"?

A problem well-stated is a problem almost solved. Put us in front of that truck.
How do we know if you used GOOD after-market headlights? The headlight circuit is poorly-designed; even stock headlights strain the switch contacts; Some after-market headlights use higher power than stock/OEM so they could kill switch contacts even quicker.

And like Co says, go to HF and buy a multi-meter (pls see my signature).

 

I still have nothing checked power and I have 12V on high beam with the volt meter and have 0V on low. But then when I plug them back in I have no highs even when I have volts going to the head lights. And of course no lows because I have 0V going to the lights.

A picture paints a thousand words. Exactly where are you checking power? Both bulbs will have 12 volts AT ALL TIMES when headlight switch is on. The dimmer switch selects which bulb to connect to ground.

Ok I'll get a picture tomorrow but it is where the harness for the head lights plug into the factory wiring harness on the truck it's like three holes.

BTW... Many LED lights may not work with Toyota's switched ground headlight system. They are polarity sensitive. DOT-compliant but expensive Truck-lites would plug and play without modification.

I will also try the other wiring harness I have from my other lights and see if they work in theses head lights.

put new relays in and still nothing I'm getting tired of playing with the wiring if, im gonna look and see if.any of the wires got cut somewhere and if nothing I'm gonna bring it in to get looked at. Need the truck asap so I don't really have a choice

 

Yes, you do have a choices:
1) Let someone else look at it, and possibly mess it up more, OR
2) Look at it yourself.
Disconnect those after-market lights. Check connector pins according to this:

It was the hid wiring all along

 

So what did you do to fix it? Fix the HID wiring? Restored to stock?

i went to the auto store bought 9003 head lights and put them in the socket plugged them into truck wiring and now have fully functioning high and low
