grease fittings for 84 4runner

Hi All,

Do any of you have 84 4runners? If so, what size grease gun do you use for grease fittings?

My current grease gun isn't fitting onto the fittings. I think it might be a 7mm or 8mm grease gun that is required, but I think mine is more like a 10mm or 12 mm.

6mm .. but I thought all automotive grease guns heads were the same ? they "snap" on to the grease nipple

Some grease guns do have adaptor heads but most come universal and should work out of the box, at least mine did.

Ya, I kinda messed this one up. I thought that I had found the grease fitting for the front tires. It was a little nipple like thing with a rubber cap over the head. So I popped the cap, and tried pumping some grease on there. Didn't go. Thought I had the wrong size nipple, so I took it off to see if I could get a bigger size to fit the grease gun. So I unscrewed it, come to find out that it somehow connected to the break line, and the break fluid all squirted out. Had to get new brake fluid put in. But I still don't know where the grease fitting is... Kinda want to give up on it, but I probably shouldn't.

There are no grease fittings or zerks anywhere on your front axle.

Yeah there is. It's right on the top of the brake caliper... Pump grease in there and your brakes won't squeak...

Hey guys!! I FINALLY got around to doing the grease fittings and it was a success. Found a good diagram of where all the grease fittings are on the web thanks to se7enine. Thanks man.

Ok, so when I was doing the grease fittings, I think I found that one grease fitting might actually be "broken". Not the nipple. I think there's this circular piece of metal that seals in the grease chamber. On on of my grease fittings that seems to be working correclty, the grease chamber filled up with grease, and I actually saw the propeller arm move down as grease got compressed in the chamber. (I think it's called the propeller arm... not 100% sure). So I knew that one was working correctly. Then on the first one, I didn't feel the circular peice of metal that's supposed to seal the chamber to keep the grease in. THat one just had an open chamber, and as I pumped the grease in, it went into the chamber and once it was filled, it just kind of pumped its way out because there was no seal.

So, any advice on what I should do about the broken chamber? Should I try to get it fixed? No clue How I'd do that. Or should I just ignore it?

Also, on my 78 Chinook camper, I figured it would have grease fitting like the 84 4runner, but I didn't find any on that vehicle. Maybe it just doesn't require grease?? No clue.

Well, when you insert the grease into the grease fitting, it has to go somewhere, right? It goes into the grease chamber. What I'm saying is, I think there's a metal cap that closes the grease fitting chamber, and I think the metal cap fell off of one of the chambers, because I can stick my finger right into it.
