fuel pump drive cam

fuel pump drive cam
I just tore down an 85 4runner to change the timing chain. the motor is a fuel injected four cylinder. why does it have the drive cam in it? I just finished the timing chain on an 88 efi 4 cylinder and it did not have the drive cam in it. did toyota put this in all 4 bangers that model because some were carbed or has someone been tinkering with this engine? this 85 engine does have a 22r label on the front of the valve cover instead of 22re, so I'm pretty sure someone has changed the valve cover. the timing chain and chain guides seem to be in good shape. all the gaskets on the front of the engine leak very bad.

I would say the 22r sticker is a good indication that someone swapped on an EFI system. I doubt they put the cam on non-EFI motors. Cause they offered the Carb all the way up to '88.
So.... it's possible but I don't know enough about the engine to say for sure. I'm sure someone else would know for sure though
