Floppy turn signal question

When I got my truck it had this stupid tiny steering wheel, looked like the PO stole it from a Super Off road arcade machine. It was so small it made the lack of power steering even worse.

I bought a used Toyota steering wheel off E-bay, seller said it was for a 85 pickup, but with the way the horn actuates ( by wire instead of that weird little ring) I think it might be from a later year.

The new steering wheel is awesome. makes driving much easier. Only problem now is that the turn signal will not stay in any position except all the way down. Absolutely perfect if I was constantly making left turns. But I tend to also drive straight and make right turns sometimes.

Any ideas on whether this is something I can tighten up, or is there may be something missing?

There was an adapter I had to remove that went to the old wheel, it did not look like the adapter in any way touched the turn signal stick. It just had a splined hole in the center to fit on the factory steering thingy. When I spin the wheel a full 360 I can hear the turn signal stick being hit by something, like it should to cancel the signal. Tomorrow I can take some pics, I looked for pics of a steering wheel install, but could not find anything that gave me any hints.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey man... Could be the steering wheel being for a different year might be causing some issues. I'm not sure that it could break off the portion of your left and right turn signal operation... I guess with some pictures with the steering column cover removed, we can go from there. I just want your some of this with the turn signal issue... It is pretty clear of the turn signal apparatus but is connected in ways. I took quite a few photos and I believe I have them in their own album in Photobucket.... My username there is imachefbrotha .... I believe the album is called "A Turn Signal drama" ? Lol.....

Thats all I have right now... I think I have some more my phone that I never uploaded, & I know I have some video explaining the operation of the turn signal actuator. If you look at those pictures you can see how the horn works on an 87 4runner. ... I believe on the pickup on some 85's the horn was actually on the wheel hey arm portions Connect the center to the outer portion. Two little buttons, one on each side where your thumbs would push. Clearly on mine it is a completed ground as you pushin the pad, which makes contact with the circular desk that you were talking about under the steering wheel. I'm very exhausted and on some medications at the moment... No, nothing illegal! Lol. Just not myself 100 percent... Anything I can do to help I will. Also there's a buddy on here that I'm sure will jump in.... Excellent dude! I don't want to give out his name without his permission... So I will just see if he wants to stop by. He's a master electrician.

Thanks Chef. i will check out your photobucket album to see if I can find something that helps.

Funny, I was just listening to Bob Seger, and I am a Chef as well. Weird coincidence. Thanks for your help.

Hey man... No problem, and that is pretty funny! Lol.

Anyway, look back up at my last post which I have edited. There are a couple photos added... It's not really going to help you as far as were the turn signal lever goes up and down and actuates. My problem was completely different and I began chasing another gram on once I realized my issue was coming from the trailer package wiring. Anyhow, I don't think I ever uploaded that video that explained how to clean that switch guide out and so forth. I explained in a video how it works and everything... Like I said, I don't think I uploaded it. I'm going to have to look back on my phone and see if I can find it. I might very well have deleted it... But I will look.

What year is your truck?

The reason I ask, is that it looks like your truck has the connector my new steering wheel has for the horn. Our problems seem to be different. but it does look like knowing the year of your truck will help me figure out what year truck my new steering wheel goes to.

I would really hate to have to return my new steering wheel. It was half as much as all the other steering wheels I found, and shipping is more than the price of the steering wheel. And having a wheel that is the right size makes steering this beast much easier.

This is the second E-bay part I have bought that does not fit my truck. Seems like people have no idea what they are selling and just throwing up a year range that looks similar without knowing the differences between the models. Which is really frustrating when you are paying for shipping and return shipping.

Should have just looked a little more into your photobucket album, your truck is an 87 4Runner? Is that your only Toyota, or was that a pic on a different truck?

Ok, so today I found the issue.

When I was taking the old wheel off i chipped the plastic track that the turn signal rides in. Not sure what this part is called. I found the missing piece of track and glued it back on. Hopefully it lasts long enough for me to get a replacement part. If anyone knows the name of the little black piece that is cracked please let me know.

So I now have working turn signals. Now I have to decide whether I want to get another wheel or stick with this one. The only problem with this wheel is that my factory horn does not work. But the aooga horn that the PO had installed does work. I just have to press this button to the right of the wheel to make it work.

The position of the button makes it awkward to hit the horn when I actually need to use it.
