Thanks. Even if the truck were red or blue, I'd probably paint it that Toyota Creme. I just love the old, muted, no-metal-flake colors on these "vintage" trucks. With the FJ40 series wheels, 33s... it'll look like an old toy truck. (at least in my head it does)
Very nice!.... I'm still back and forth on keeping my Orignal color. Paint wl be the last thing for me. It actually was my first intention but I've changed my mind over these last few months. If I do go a different route would you want to purchase this replica OEM decal set bought

I'm definitely taking the quasi-factory approach - O.E. color, 1984 Toyota wheels (but not this Toyota), no graphics, etc.
The truck's back at ACC Garage for the fun stuff - tires and wheels are next! The tray-back (sounds cooler than flatbed) is getting changed a bit, and will go on next week. Then carpet, seats... gotta figure out a front bumper. Like I said, the fun stuff!
Wheels and tires are in (not on) and the color choice has been made! I decided, after considering Antique White and NATO Gray, to body-match the wheels. Since 75% of the wheels will be behind the hubcaps (hubcaps!), I think the color will be just enough of an accent to make the wheels almost look factory... almost.
Out of the box:
Out of the oven:
We have a match!

@Damion812 Right?! All I wanted back then was to replace my 13" steel wheels with 14" or 15" "alloys". Now, I feel like I'm building a truck around 15" steel wheels!
@Nervo19 Thanks! They are actually year and brand-correct for that truck. Okay, not model-correct. And, sorta stretching it a bit. Those are Toyota FJ40 wheels and hubcaps - from Toyota. It's crazy they're still available. Okay, yes - FJ40 sales ended in the U.S. in 1983. But... they were still sold in Canada til '84. So, I'm going with the North America thing - still available in 1984, so "period correct" ;-)
Spent some time inside the cab - pulled panels and parts and cleaned and scrubbed and cleaned some more... then added some sound-deadening material, new carpet and a new shifter boot.
Ended up going with the ARB bumper. I say "the" because, according to ARB USA, this was the LAST bumper in North America for this generation Toyota Truck... and no ETA on anymore coming.
Gorgeous. When you get a chance can you show the rear area? About four years ago when we were looking for a pickup I could not find any pictures on line of the rear area. I feel in love with Toyota 4x4's when a friend came to get me during a snow shut down in an '87 your exact color. I ended up getting a new '88 4Runner. I'm going to post a picture of my youngest son's '98 with the ARB. I wonder how they differ? I h ave not looked very closely.

Still need to build the bed.
I love that bumper! Lol I'm sure you mentioned it but I missed it. What size tires are on the awsome wheels? They look to be the size I'm running and I think my next big thing for the truck would be a set of those complete with the hub caps.
Wow this has always been my favorite color for the old school toyotas. Yours is looking amazing, I am planning on buying a fairly rust free 1990 this week it’s Grey and I wish it was this color. It has Mickey Thompson wheels and tires. The tires are much to wide and I’ve been searching the forum for a truck with tires that I would want on mine. I like a bit taller than stock but nice and thin. Everyone I’ve seen so far is going the exact opposite.
Your tire size is what I’m looking for. Can you please post the tire size?? Thanks much.
Thanks guys! It's coming along. Once we get the bed and sliders built, this thing will see some trails. I don't think it's crazy to 'wheel a freshly painted, pretty truck. I think it's crazy to own a 4-wheel-drive and NOT 'wheel it.

The bumpers for IFS trucks are different - where/how they mount.
The back area is "naked."
Well, it let me post one pic - still stalling on the other pic.
The tires are 33/10.50/15 BFG KO2s on 5.5" Toyota FJ40 wheels.

Those tires look great on them wheels. I thought you would need an 8 or 9 inch wide wheel at lest. You my want to extend that flexible brake line going to the rear axle.
Thanks @Damion812 I thought I'd need wider wheels too. But, everyone I checked with - from ACC to guys on the forum - said the combo works great.... well, as long I'm autocrossing the truck. And yeah - there are few things to address with the brakes - replacing the line and eliminating the factory load sensor. Adding to the line issue - the truck is currently way too tall - with no weight back there, the shackles are pointing forward. Once the bed is in place, if it doesn't come down a good bit, I may pull a leaf out of all four packs.

Not much progress on the truck in past few months - busy with work and hard to hang out in shops with the virus lingering. I did instal (after painting with Bluebird brown SEM) a Coverlay dash. It is a vast improvement over the faded cracked OEM dash. One day after the glue dried, I got a line on a near pristine brown dash. That may soon find its way in the truck.
Bluebird brown does match some of the brown pieces in the truck... just not the dash. But, since these trucks were chocolate rainbows from the factory, it's fine.
When I posted the dash on 'mud, one of the guys - rustED71 - noticed the spot where the factory would've been still had the knock-out panel.. and sent me a working O.E. digital clock. He would accept no money and even covered shipping. THAT is a solid dude.
If all goes well with a couple other projects, we're going to start fabricating the bed this weekend.

Wow flat out amazing, the tan is absolutely my favorite color. Grandpa had 2 while growing up both a few years apart bought brand new and I so loved those trucks. I’ve wanted one all of my life and just missed the perfect 84. Wanted to buy it and was going to let my 1990 go if I did get it but the seller wasn’t letting me until my turn to buy came up. I had 2 ahead of me and knew it was a goner. It was at the top of my affordable range and rust free. Just wish I could find a solid axle rust free truck that I can afford. This one was $5900 And as much as I love my 1990 I was willing to let it go. Manhattan your truck is amazing and so is devildawgs a few post back. Grandpas were both single cab but had that tan color. I so want to make my 1990 that color and just add a old school set of graphics on it. Lol
