Exhaust advice

I bought an 85 Toyota pickup the other day and took it out for the first time on Saturday. The truck is so loud I hate being in it... It has a stock set if headers into a high flow straight through cat the. The exhaust is cut off after that. What size pipe should I run out of the far into a new muffler? Also what is a nice CHEAP muffler I can get that's decent on these trucks? I want a quite ride and I do not care about the 2hp or 3hp I can gain with louder muffler lol. I searched and couldn't find my answer... I do not dd the truck I run it on the trails...

I found the Thrush turbo muffler at my local parts store for 28.99 they have a 2" and a 2.5" size should I go with 2" or 2.5"??? I was listening to clips online and they do not sound loud at all...

Just get the stock size trash can muffler and 1-3/4 - 2 inch piping. For a quieter ride, try dynamat or cheaper Peel n stick material to in insulate the cab

I would go with flowmaster 40 and 2.25'' pipe. its got a nice deep sound, (not the pissed off bumblebee noise). its relatively quiet unless you really get on it, which i regularly do. LOL

I believe I'm going to go with 2" pipe (unless it's smaller then stock) and run the $29 thrush turbo muffler...

you will get what you pay for. The exhaust will eventually rust off and you'll be pissed you wasted 30 bucks on a crappy muffler. Flowmaster is not much better in the durability department but the 55 series is a little quieter. You can get a 2.5 inch exhaust and have it sound nice with out all the noise. Look into borla as well or magnaflow as they both have a nice tone without the loundness. Again you will get what you pay for. Go cheap expect cheap results. I've had two mufflers rust off already and the best one that lasted so far was the stock one. Get a stock muffler if you want a lasting muffler.

If it last a year that's good enough but it is aluminized and the truck doesn't get driven but every few weeks so it's no big deal I bet it will last long enough. I am going to swap in a diesel whenever I find one and that's getting a 2.5-3" exhaust so thats the one that will be built last... Thank you though...
