enigne hesistation 22r

ok so this problem has been going on for about a year now. everything ive done just doesnt work. stopped at red lights, stop signs, what ever, starting to go in first gear from idle it has like a one second hesistaion then the engine starts to go. the second i hit the gas pedal it seems like the engine dies for a second and then starts to go. thought it had something to do with the carburator so i took it to my local mechanic. he says its the accelrator pump and refers me to his buddys carburator shop. this guy says its not the carb but the ignition. he hooked up some wires to the spark plugs and says the spark is bad, not the carb but the ingition. so after new plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor, coil, igniter, and a distributor. still does it. well mr 'its the ignition. thats pretty much my entire ignition now isnt it. still does it. take it back to my local mechanic sill says its the carb. gives me the interior manifold thing of the accelrator pump. put that guy on. still does it. so we decided to take to another carburator shop my mechanic recommended. just said, rebuild it. and he did. but guess what, still doing it. i have no idea what to do left and this problem is reallllly annoying and its always causing me to stall and i hate it. anybody have any ideas or has had this exact same problem?

the biggest bog that the 22R has is a blown AAP(auxillary accelerator pump). it's the little vacuum diaphragm with a hose going to it at the front, right bottom side of the carb. pull the hose off and if it's full of gas, it needs to be replaced. pretty cheap item.

if it's running it's probably not the ignition -- i'd look into the carb itself.

have you taken a look at your spark plugs? you can tell a lot about what's going on by the color and condition they are in.

if that hose is full of gas, it's time for a new AAP.

hey kyle, after looking at my carb and following your directions i have been lead to this tube:

it's completly dry and has no gas in it at all. is this the right tube or is something else bogging down my motor. thanks.

prob not, shop like to take the cheapest route... i had a carb rebuilt by a shop that been around for like 40 years and about 300 miles later it took a crap and we went back to them like after the warranty was up(didnt drive it that much) and some new guy took over and the place sucks now and we found cilicon in some of the passages. but we went to national carbs online and they sent up a rebuilt(looked brand new) carb for under 200

never take anything for granted -- i had a shop rebuild my 22R carb and they never set the float level. only charged me $300(after quoting me $150), i could've bought a new weber for that at the time.

6 months later i shelved that carb and put my old 32/36 back on. haven't had any carb trouble since.

My guess,

Has the timming been checked, sounds like its retarded maybe. Put it in nuteral, give it gas real fast, but not too much, no need to rev up to 4k. Anyway hit the gas fast, does the motor seem to bog down then climb up in rpms? Or when your crusing and just stomp it, does it bog then slowly climb.
That would be signs of the motor being retarded, or the vacuum advance is not working in the distributor, check the vac. line on the distributor.

Clogged EGR valve also comes to mind. If the timing is fine, then something else is messing with the air/fuel mixture.
Dirty Air filter, fuel filter, clogged ports leading to or in the EGR valve.

when i hit the ras real hard it has a sudden bog like its going to die and then the rpms go up like normal. timing is good. distributor is brand new. new air filter. new fuel filter. new fuel pump.
