engine swap ideas?

hey there
I would like to hear some opinions on different engines that would swap fairly easily into my 84. I'm looking for more power than my worn out 22R but I also want to keep my gas milage reasonable. I have heard good things about the vortech 4.3l. I'm also a diesel guy, and would be very interested in any diesel swaps. what other engines out there do ya recommend?

i would go for the 4.3 chevy because it is a relatively simple swap. and the motor doesn't weigh alot and there are adaptors avalible for your tranny

Here's one that's different and didn't cost an arm and a leg;

Plus if you read thru it there is a parts list at the end.

I like my 7MGE - 200hp and I still get 20 mpg with 32's and 4.56 gears (speedo is dead accurate) - the only tough part is fitting a radiator, but I've read where some have been able to bolt in an early V6 radiator

notes on my swap

There isn't any conversion that would be considered simple but here are couple.

Acme adapters makes kits to put VW TDI Diesel engines in Suzuki's using Toyota tranny/t-cases so there is not reason it won;t work in a Toyota truck too.

There is also a forum for diesel Toyotas http://www.toyotadiesel.com/forums/

Another interesting swap is a Lexus 1UZFE 4.0 Aluminum V8

thanks for the replies guys. unfortunitly my toyota was stolen from my boss's driveway last night. If I could only have 5 minutes with the tweaker that stole it...no questions asked...
still wouldn't replace it or the things that were in it

hi guys. i got a 85 runner with a 22re and i want to drop a v6 in it. i got for free a 94 3.0 with trans and t case, how hard is a swap like this? can i double up the v6 t case with a 4 cyclinder t case? what about the front spring? i want to lift it but can i do the swap first and not have the front sit really low?

If it were me I would do the same thing as I did before. Only I think I would wait for a manual tranny to come along instead of going for an auto like I did. I put a 3.0L Toyota TD in my pickup. It came out of a Toyota Surf from Japan. It has no problems holding its own on the highway and it will tow loads quite good as well. Two weekends ago I hauled home a VW Jetta on a tandem axle U haul trailer. Figured it was around 6000 pounds and I could cruise at 65 mph. With a big load like that I get around 19 mpg or so. Unloaded I average about 26 around town and highway. Strictly highway its up right around the 30 mark. It wasn't that expensive and works very well. But like I said I would rather have a 5 speed. I'm probably going to swap one in next summer. Just an idea that probably most of you haven't heard of much.

There's no way I've ever swap a 22RE for a 3VZ (3.0 V-6). Best swap IMO is the 3.4L 5VZ.
