engine surging

just got done swapping in a newer 22re into my 85' pickup but have run into a problem. it idles fine but whenever you try to give it gas it surges as if it isnt getting any fuel. it sorta sounds like its just revving up. i just put in a new fuel pump recently and i also changed the fuel filter last week. fuel lines arent leaking either. this morning i noticed a pool of coolant underneath the truck. turns out the leak is coming from right underneath the throttle body where two coolant hoses are attached. would this cause my engine to perform this way? what other factors could cause this? thanks in advance for any help

Check and adjust the TPS if needed. Are you sure all of the vacuum lines are hooked up properly ?, especially those going to the EGR ?.

yea the vacuum lines are all cherry. ive already adjusted the tps and it made the problem worse. il try getting a new one from a junkyard. someone also mentioned to me that it could be my knock sensor? i have no idea how that would affect it surging. any comments on that?

when you swapped the motor did you swap in the newer ECU or did you keep the original one on the truck? or did you swap all the sensors from the old motor to the new one and keep the original ECU.

Could cause that problem. The ECU coolant temp sensor determines idle speed to some degree so if there are air pockets (due to the leaking coolant), that sensor will see air/coolant/air/coolant/... and cause a surging idle.
