I was driving down the freeway the other day and all of a sudden it died and I was just slowing down. I couldn't start it what so ever. I was thinking to my self "really? I just fixed a bunch of issues including the fuel pump, starter, tps, coil, pick up in coil, rotor, ect..

Turns out the EFI fuse in drivers kick panel was burned and melted into two pieces. It's the correct 15a fuse so not sure why it did that. Luckily I had another and put it in and got it home barely as it kept wanting to die on my if I didn't keep the rpms up and not go into 4th and 5th in low rpms. It would stutter a few times and died on me at lights at idle. I need to clean it out, clean contacts and put fuse back in and hope it works. Maybe I need to upgrade the wire or connection to the fuse?

Anyone had this issue or anything like this before and if so what did you do?
Why did it not just blow? Why did it burn and melt? Glad the truck didn't catch on fire.

 

Might check the wire running to the O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold. Common cause of EFI fuse burning out is that wire shorting to the hot exhaust and melting the insulation.

Otherwise, see if the fuse holder is perhaps oxidized, if so, try cleaning the contacts. It could be a poor contact on the fuse tabs is causing it to overheat.

 

It's a brand new O2 sensor and pigtail and not near anything to melt. It must be the fuse holder oxidized and dirty contacts. That's what I was thinking too.

 

The fuse contacts in the fuse box are bad and fried and it barely runs with new fuse in there and hard to clean. I think I'm going to try a stand alone fuse thing or direct connection if possible.
