Hi all,
Well, I have the 20R in my 84, PO changed it out, I assume he blew up the 22R. Now I need to know if he just changed out the engine or he changed out the entire drive train, transfer case, tranny. Is there any markings on the transfer case and tranny that would tell me what they are? My next step in the rebuild is to start cleaning the transfer case and tranny so If there are numbers on them I should be able to find them after I scrub them down. I really can't rely on the info on the engine compartment plate. It is a 5 speed manual 4wd, that's about all I know. Oh, and it all works fine! Here are some pics. Thanks

looks like a G52 to me. forward shift t-case is typically a give away. Unless later model w56. marlincrawler.com has a good identification section to let you know which trans by looking at the webbing on the transmission case.
But at a quick glance, it looks like correct trans/ tcase for a 1984 and up carbureted truck. If it was an 80/ trans/t-case, it would have a side shifter 4 speed/ top shift t-case. a 81-83 will have a top shift at the back, with a shaft going forward to the top plate and forks. "L series" and a top shift t-case.
If you are missing the bellhousing, they are the same w series and g series as long as it was bolted to a 22r/re
No, I have it just took it off to paint it
Thanks for the info, I see a stamp the the steel part between the two and it is stamped 352 also I've seen a pic of the same setup I have and it's a G52
