I have an 85 toyota pickup with a 84 head. Problem is my 85 dipstick is the wrong length. Ive been to 5 junk yards and cant find a 84 dipstick. Can anyone tell me how long a 84 dipstick is for the love of god?

Be sure how much it holds per Toyota. Then stop one quart shy of full, make a small notch with a file on the edge of your dipstick. Then do the same when the last quart is added to make your Full mark. I've had to do this on old muscle cars with junkyard engines. Or you can keep searching. It's just a thought.

I wanna say its 4.5 quarts with filter change, but don't quote me. Find out for yourself.

i believe that the dipstick tube lengths are different, see if this helps:

if your dipstick is loose and flopping around, you are going to want to replace it anyway, because it'll suck crap into the crankcase.

Is that the original engine ??

If so take the vin go to your dealer get a new tube and new dipstick. What ever else you might need to replace it all!

Then your good to go for a few years.

Over the years i have bought quite a few.

The rubber gets old and no longer seals like it should.

i have tried the notching thing and most often the dip stick just breaks off at the score mark in time

Dang Wyo, how deep are you scratching?

I literally just barely notch the edge 2-3 passes with a triangle file or the corner of a flat file. I've never scored all the way across.
