Clutch slipping like crazy
Hey all, I've been away from the forum and my 4Runner for quite a while. I bought a diesel Golf 3 years ago and have mainly been using my 'Runner ('95, 5-speed, 3.0) as a work truck hauling gear at our outdoor ed. center. Last month I was pulling a small utility trailer full of firewood and noticed the clutch slipping as I climbed a hill on the highway.
Today it was 0?F with the N'or Easter on the way, and instead of taking the Golf to work I decided I'd take my truck. I could not even get up the small hill leaving my village is in without the clutch slipping. I turned around an went home for the frozen V-dub.
Where should I start? What should I check (not until next week, as we're due for 2+ feet of snow tonight into tomorrow) as far as hydraulics? I will check the fluid level and look for leaks, but aside from that...what? This clutch is not adjustable, correct?
I'm pretty bummed, I have a brand new set of BFGs on it and was really hoping to play in the snow.
Thanks all.
